1. Our life-style is a direct result of the beliefs we hold about
ourselves and the world around us.
2. Our beliefs are essentially those ideas that we have internally
agreed to believing in .
3. We inherited the prime components of our belief system from our
families and those around us starting from the moment we were born.
4. We assimilated the beliefs of others into our own minds, each
belief at a given stage in our young lives.
5. These beliefs for the most part were assimilated by us without
scrutiny and usually as a result of pressure from outside sources (not
all of which are social).
6. These beliefs were often absorbed by us whether they were right or
wrong, beneficial or destructive to our well being. This has caused
fragmentation within our minds, personalities and lives.
7. In order to change our lives we must first understand the origins
of our beliefs, challenge the validity of these beliefs and reject
those beliefs that are not beneficial to our total growth as human
beings.
8. In order to produce desired change in our lives, we must begin to
do things differently, trading one thought pattern for another and a
bad habit for a good one. Our lives become a result of what we choose
and have been taught to emphasize. What we emphasize in our minds
becomes what we emphasize in our actions and thus our reality is born.
9. In order to begin doing things differently it is necessary for us
to systematically replace undesirable thought patterns and activities
with carefully chosen new ones. During a person's development what is
right for one individual is not helpful to the next, and the origins
of our negative thought patterns will largely determine the nature of
our new thoughts and activities.
10. This process must be guided by someone with training as an
objective and detached observer. It is absolutely necessary in order
to aid the participant in understanding how their beliefs and thought
patterns effect their lives.
