I assume the key-overide can be pinned to be somewhat pick/bump resistant.
Can it also be made to accept some common (around here, anyway) keys such as
SC-1?

TIA, Ralph

I don't think the 900 series can use a Schlage keyway, but for these locks I
really would not worry about an override, they work really well.

they come up with this striped stuff.

Hello Ralph,

Your assumption is incorrect... Out of the box a Simplex 900 key
override
cylinder can not be keyed into any standard keying systems due to the
fact
that the keyed override rim cylinder supplied with the lock is not
standard size,
it is smaller... You can however adapt a standard rim cylinder to
operate a
Simplex 900 lockset... Then you could key it into just about any
keying system
you wish as you can obtain a rim cylinder in a keyway compatible with
your
other locks...

Accomplishing this requires experience with installing these locks as
the
standard sized rim cylinder must be mounted with a recessed escutcheon
trim ring, the tailpiece must be modified to fit into the lockworks on
the
Simplex 900 and the cylinder mounting plate must be modified to be
able
to accommodate one of the lock mounting screws... When a standard
rim cylinder is used, the lock body on the outside of the door will
cover
a portion of the surface of the rim cylinder and part of the cylinder
mounting
plate will be visible on the inside of the door...

Is your particular application for this lock required to use a key
override ???

Customer is a friend. He has a couple of sliding drawers in his pickup
that have 902 locks. He has had a couple of problems over the years with
the pushbuttons not resetting, which he resolved by buying a new lock. I
was wondering if he might be well off having a key override in case the 902
failed when closed. And, since his house key is SC1, . . .

But I can see that the simplest thing is to just put another 902 in and
forget the key override.

But I am also going to pick up a centerplate & barrel assembly and see if
the problem can be resolved without buying a whole new lock.

Thanks, Ralph
