Btw: SALON in its present carnation is an outright freebie as are most/
many magazines and various worthwhile publications available on the
internet, which is kid in candy store, especially if one had paid
subscriptions to some of the same publications for years--thank some
semi saints for their philanthropy

For instance: I recall Paul Newman rescuing THE NATION (apparent large
contribution)

Meanwhile, I must agree with the Rupert Murdoch implication that
internet freebies are of a golden age (for the readers) in transition,
while this wonderful temporariness could be a few more years, or
decades of experiments with ads, trials and errors

I had subscribed for money to SLATE & to THE NY TIMES, which are now
free

Rupert's improved WALL STREET JOURNAL & BARONS aren't free, and I'm a
subscriber to both

APPARENTLY, unhappily, some gutsy investigative journalism is being
thought of now as obsolete, unless gutsy foundation support comes
forth

Re: flames about sub-mediocre notes

So long as I'm allowed to slim 'em in return, ...
