Mark Helprin -- an *entree* to what? Realizing that Jonathan Arac and
other luminaries Might Want to Tell You that *Es gibt* a certain
"tenable" monstrosity to the going concerns of American life, esp. in
*Ostpolitik*, and Benjaminian "equilibration" to the 'projection-
possibilities' available to you requires realizing this "right quick"
-- that is to say, eventually, and through the agencies of a "fine
literature" which is carefully presented, rather than "ever-green
Modernism".

New York City -- that is so: a *horrifique* of beautiful women with
long legs and immoderate desires -- a capitalist machinery exceeding
all expectations: only not only -- since The American is actually
*equally* as "lib'er'a'ted" all across *the continent* -- and what is
presented "open-face" in New York and environs, the "book of life" of
choices to make and /just so/, is secretly present right there in
"River City" and anywhere you roam (if you want to, if you want to).

Consequently, there is "every saying" that this novel is an Eternal
Return of the latticework of City Life, right down to the 'niggling'
detail that the book actually takes place in the late 20s -- when the
Oakland-San Francisco Bay Bridge was *actually* built, perhaps by
people as "relatively" insane as Peter Lake [for whom there were IVs
non-grammatical at that time] and as functionally useful for people
who, well, had the "common-wealth" from the *top down*.

"Cathy II" if you want it; and you *surely should not, should not
have, and did do so.*

"Shakespeare with the lid off" -- Yes.
