when i start my redhat 6.0 install on a 486 i get a kernel
error
saying
kmod: failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s-k binfmt-464c errno 7 then the
same line again with an error no 8
can anyone helpme with this problem its stopping me using my system

Well, the errno 8 is a kernel message enoexec. Did you compile elf support
as a module?
You might turn this off by adding the following to /etc/modules.conf (or
conf.modules, depending):
alias binfmt-0000 off
