The fact that Ubuntu does not include the Ndiswrapper as part of their
disto CD has been one of my major heartburns with them.
If you are up to it, and since you already have Ubuntu loaded on Vista
you should be, replace Ubuntu with PCLinuxOS, which comes with the
Ndiswrapper.
Overall, and not just because of the Nidswrapper, I just much prefer
PCLinuxOS over Ubuntu, especially since they have gone to the "rolling
update" format. No more full installs every six months, or whenever the
newest and latest version comes out.
Now before any of you "True Believer" types chime in. There are certain
pieces of hardware that do not have GPL drivers available - yet. For a
couple of years, the only way I could connect to the internet was via an
Ndiswrapper, because the Atherios drivers for my wireless card were not
part of the Madwifi set nor included in the kernel.

Assuming he can get to the internet with his Linux OS. That is a very
large assumption, if he is needing a "Ndiswrapper."
