Hey everyone, welcome to my official delurk message.

Now didn't that sound pathetic? Oh well, I never know how to start these
messages.

For the longest amount of time, I've been looking for a public access Usenet
server. Well, I finally gave up and just subscribed to DejaNews. As a
matter of fact, this is my first message ever using the DejaNews system
(bleh). I was so excited to finally be posting to ALF, I decided to forego
the Furvey. I'll do it sometime, don't worry =) On the other hand, this
probably isn't a delurk, I started writing this 10 minutes after I logged in.
An introduction would be more like it. Risky and newbie-like, I know, but
I'm not one to fret about the small stuff, and I'm sure that alot of you out
there will appreciate that.

For now, a little bit of info about me.

Ummm...obviously I'm a lifestyler, I'm not exactly sure how much of a
lifestyler I am, but I certainly believe that I have an animal true self, and
have adopted a semi-religious perspective about my furriness.

What do I like to do? Well, I like to mess with computers, I *love* to
program, especially games, as you can see from my website
http://www.thevortex.com. I also like to compose music, do all types of art,
pencil, paint, sculpture, PC 2D-3D, etc., and write. I'm currently working on
a half-epic half-yiffy story with a good friend of mine.

I'm fairly fresh meat to furrydom, I've probably been officially furry (by my
standards) for six months. I still don't feel totally comfortable in my
position, but I'm sure that it will come with time. I have three "characters"
right now, a male white tiger named Miano (SpR and FurryMUCK), a lioness named
Sarala (TLKMUCK of course), and a nameless female blue bunny rabbit
(tentatively named Julie). As you can see, I'm still trying to find my place
here. I haven't totally discovered what animal I relate to most, although I
know in my heart there is a particular ONE that is for me. I've made some
friends, but I long to meet someone close to me who I can share things with in
a more personal way. If anyone's in Tampa, Florida, say "Aye!"

But, I might as well join ALF, because I definately know I'm a lifestyler, and
I'm sure that some of you will be more than willing to help me along on this
journey of self-discovery.

If you were wondering what my views on mating are, you can read Wyatt's first
response to Byzyntyn's story of woe. That's me to a tea. Everyone always
says RL and VR, but memory brings me back to a three-year long relationship
that I had, which was very personal and emotional. That was just as real to
me as knowing someone face-to-face, and I despised those who told me that it
wasn't a real relationship because it was over the 'Net. IMHO, the Internet
is the best thing that's ever happened to those who are looking for love,
there's no longer an easy way to dodge a question, and there are only so many
times you can "Umm", "Err", or "I don't know". What this ends up meaning is,
that given the right situation, people are very honest with each other on
many things, and you end up finding out things about someone that you would
have never known in a lifetime of knowing them ... by more conventional
means.

Anyhow, I can't think of anything more that I need to say to introduce you all
to me, so I guess I'm done.

I look forward to all your replies =)

Sincerely,

Miano
(ok so i DO have a prefurence, i'm just not sure yet tho)

Yeah, DN would almost be the wave of the future if it weren't for the

I think I do already. I was very nervous at first, that's probably why my
intro sounded pretty messed up, but I'm beginning to feel at home already.
Guess that cinnamon bun really hit the spot. You should make your own brand
and sell 'em, they'd make a killing!

Be careful treading on those grounds. On Mucks and the such you can be mated
to the character and not the player. Make sure you know where you stand, it
may just keep some feelings from getting hurt.

There are no degrees of lifestyler. Don't stress it, no one needs to worry
if they are furry "enough." If you feel that you are furry, that's good
enough for us. Heck, if you're not sure if you're furry we'll take you

Don't feel weird because you seem to have multiple fursonalities. Got a few
myself. o.0 And you're not the only one confused about which one they may
prefer/be more of. Trust me on that one.

Forgive me for pointing this out, you didn't state your human gender but I'm
guessing you are male... Anyway, it seems we have yet another male/female
furson who is a feline. I forget who mentioned that particularly
interesting bit of information awhile ago, but it seems that they hit the
mark quite well.

Mrello Miano! Nice to meet another White Tiger. I'm the Ghost Cat, another

Oh yeah, those. I thought they were supposed to be a

Yeah I think so. I'm probably gonna stick with good ole Miano for awhile, if
I get discontent, I know it's not for me. But the way I keep coming back to
the same character, I sometimes wonder if I was right all along.

Another? Ooo I like the sound of that ;)

I can see that everything is fairly calm here, no flames in sight.
Must be a very small volunteer fire department here! (bad joke)

AFF is just sad, I can't believe the hatred there. Everything anyone seems to
say is mis-interpreted as an attack on someone or something, no matter how
truly innocent the message was. Oh, well. Best to keep away.

When I first came here, I read a very interesting report about the flames of
ALF. It said that 90% of them were caused by Smrgol sneezing ;)

No comments yet, except that I think this place is great.

No question about my furriness either, "I was born furry" to quote
a common phrase here. Just a little shy =)

Oh, duh. Yeah, I'm male. Oopsies =)

One other thing I wanted to say that I forgot was my
political standing. Just so you'd get an idea of who
I was. I really wanted to become a Freezing Fur, because
I was personsally really upsetted by what was on the
Burned Furs page. But I took one look at AFF and realized
peace was the only answer. So consider me one of the
non-aligned.

Well, guess that's about it, talk to you soon ;)

Epicaceous? *ow* Okay, that was bad.

If I amember arightly, there's three short stories in a novella, two
novellas in a novellette, one-and-half to two novellettes in a novel,
and, by tradition, three novels in an "epic trilogy".

Does that help?

I say 'nay-nay!'. Don't give up on aff. There are still gems amongst the
dirt. Just learn to ignore the troublemakers. If enough did that, as
done here, they would get bored. Alf proves people can be civil. We just
need to stack the deck.

This is what makes alf different from aff; we act as a furry community
here. We treat each other as people as if we knew each other personally.
We can relax and enjoy our topics.

It might be the general nature of aff. It seems to be a sterile meeting
room where most have no desire to know their neighbor. If aff had a
unified membership, there would be effective pressure to behave. I know
alf has been accused of elitist, exclusiveness in that vein but it seems
reality shows we enjoy a freedom of speech barely recognizable there. It
doesn't have to be offered food or whelpdays but a 'hello' and/or
'Thanks for your help' can go a long way.

Yeah, I guess you're right. There are some who are innocent, others who make
trouble, and can only find flaws in someone. But I guess if they're just
*ignored*, things would improve. A peaceful newsgroup for non-troublemaking
fans, and probably a support center for those who aren't so secure...*sighs*
what a dream.

I think I can second that ;)

Rather like so many of those contemporary neighborhoods made up of
cookie-cutter houses where you usually get to really know the neighbs in small
claims court. :P

That's the ticket!! :)

We also know the difference between the living room and the bathroom. ;)

Perzactly! When that happens, especially when RL and parts of VR are chewing
on your backside with mega-intensity, it makes things bright and right again.

Which is why I love this place. :)

Ah yes. "Habitrails for Humanity" as I call 'em.

Another day, another new fur. Hi there! :)

Then you'll fit in here just fine. Some take it as far as you, some farther,
some less far.

There have been some threads here about how to get in touch with your
phenotype. Anyway, there's no deadline. When/if you need to know, you'll
know. :)

Aye! Well, close enough. I'm in Lakeland. See new "Florida furmeet?" thread.
Fair warning: I'm married, monogamous, and like it that way. I don't know if
that's what you meant by "more personal", but, well, now you know. (shrug) :)
