Oddly, that's a big part of the problem. I do far batter
face-to-face than I do over the phone, in part because I depend a _lot_
on body language to get my point across, to an almost Latin extent.
Y'all might have noticed that I use some typographic tricks here
to substitute for it, but this isn't an option in voice-only...

I do have scripts... but I find I can't work that way. I find I
_have_ to improvise my way thru situations, tho I do try and plan out
most contingencies beforehand if I can, just to avoid big surprises.

In any case, I did get things sorted out at work, finally. It
took a face-to-face meeting with my boss (he prefers to work in email,
tho he actually doesn't use it well at all) but we did get some things
cleared up, finally, and I don't have to do this stuff after all.
But the stress has resulted in the precipitation of the
spiritual crisis I already knew was coming, at a bad time. More about
that in a bit...

As a Sign Language Interpreter (My *OTHER* job, which I greatly
preferr doing), I too depend on body language... especially when
dealing with a 'sale'.. somehow, I can almost hear the body language
now.. maybe it's just because I'm used to dealing with voices when
translating english into sign language: I need to express how a voice
would "Look" in ASL (American Sign Language), so I am more familiar
with vocal inflections, emotional tones, etc...

I'm sort of the same way... try and plan for the biggest stuff, and
bluff my way through the other stuff... heh heh...

Wow, I thought I felt something coming from you -- maybe I just read
it in your posts.. (I'm empathic in any case, so I feel emotional
reactions from people regardless of how I've met them -- and have done
so even through the internet!).... Hope you are feeling better!!

That brings up something kinda relevant to all this:
As time has passed, the phone companies have been compressing
and chopping phone signals in order to increase the effective bandwidth
on the main trunks. The result has been a flattening of tones all across
the board, which for me has meant I don't get as much 'extra content'
over the phone as I used to. Adding this on top of my need to _see_ who
I'm talking to, and you can understand why I loathe the telephone so
much...

Could be; I don't censor my stuff much, or edit neither. ;) But
I'm told I project like crazy, too, so who knows?

OOOH, I know what you mean.... I've noticed it's harder to get that
extra inflection heard now, too.... tho' it doesn't help me much in my
current (Temporary?) assignment as customer service rep for a health
insurance plan for kids... all the angry adults are still coming over
loud and clear!! (*sigh*)

Yes, it's rather odd that acrimony doesn't require any extra
modulation. Prolly a survival trait or something.
"OK, he's angry, but _how_ angry? Maybe if I... *THWACK!*"
