That is-- was-- a real name?

CONCORD, N.C. -- Trickle, 71, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound
Thursday in the same cemetery where his granddaughter is buried in Boger
City, N.C.

A day earlier, according to Chuck Trickle, the man known as the sport's
greatest local short-track racer went to Duke University for more tests to
help determine what was causing pain under his left breast.

"Last week he told me, 'I don't know how much longer I can put up with
this,'" Chuck Trickle, 68, said by phone from Las Vegas.

Chuck said he didn't realize how bad the pain was until last week when his
brother cursed during a phone conversation.

"He never cussed in his life," Chuck said. "The type of person he is, he
never was sad. There were some words that came out last week that were not
very good."

"He raced the way he wanted to race," Evernham said. "He came up with that
one hour sleep for every hundred miles. He partied hard. He raced hard. He
did nothing his whole life but race and help people that raced. He lived for
it.

"His life was racing. He didn't conform. He didn't worry about all the other
things. He lived on his terms."

He lived on his terms. " -- ESPN analyst and former Sprint Cup crew chief
Ray Evernham

Many remember Trickle for having a working cigarette lighter in his car so
he could smoke during a race. Others remember him for being a part of almost
every ESPN race report just because of his colorful last name.

"Man, Dick was a legend, you know, especially up in Wisconsin, ...It's just
crazy, surprising news."

The Trickle family is not a stranger to tragedy. Chuck's son, Chris, was
shot in 1997 and died the next year. Police never solved the case. Trickle's
granddaughter, Nicole Ann Bowman, was killed in an accident in front of East
Lincoln High School in 2001.

"Whether that was part of the toll, I don't know," Chuck said. "I don't
believe so. I believe the pain was the problem."

weird, I was wondering the day before if anyone had ever called to report
their own death. I hadn't heard of that ever happening, and the next day
there was this:

Dick Trickle sounded extremely calm for a man planning to kill himself when
he called 911 yesterday and told the operator, "There's going to be dead
body ... suicide."

TMZ has obtained the 911 call made by the NASCAR driver moments before he
shot himself. In the call, Trickle gave the dispatcher very detailed
instructions about where to find the body at Forest Lawn Cemetery in North
Carolina.

When the dispatcher asked Trickle if he was calling about someone else,
Trickle replied, "No, I'm the one."

The operator begged Trickle to wait for help ... but her pleas went
unanswered.

When emergency personnel arrived at the scene, Trickle's body was discovered
right where he said it would be.

Officials say Trickle died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to
the head.

What family is a stranger to tragedy? Since the very beginning of
time all families have had their share of tragedy and it's going to
get worse. It's the Trickle down theory".

Oh see the tragedy multiply as population grows and the years fly by,

How many times do I have to tell you? Gus did not kill Somebody,
Somebody killed Gus. He killed Gus and stole his identity. Now he
can say whatever he wants, even bad stuff, or flat out disgusting
stuff, or completely boring stuff, and blame it on Gus if it doesn't
turn out good. What a fucking cop out Somebody is. But he's behind
it. He created Gus, then killed Gus, then stole Gus's identity, and
is now parading around not only pretending to be Gus but pretending to
put down the late Somebody, who is behind the whole charade, trying to
use me and you and everyone on this group like we're pawns on a chess
board. I'm sick of it. I'm going to kill him.

Don't bother trying to talk me out of it,

Not only is Gus a better sounding name than Somebody, it's easier
to type. Thank you for changing, Somebody. Please stick with Gus.
In no time at all I will become accustomed to calling you Gus. In
fact, as far as I'm concerned, you are Gus.

maybe Somebody was a personality that Gus had to kill off. I wouldn't
blame him but I think he killed off the personality that had some
personality.
