The driver smelled worse than the cab. The kid next to him in the
front seat. Chattering like a monkey. I wasn't listening. I was
looking out the window as filthy houses with filthy people went by.
The road was gravel and the rocks were clinking against the bottom of
the car. Paradise. maybe to flies and coclroaches.
The bar was on a short pier over the water. The water was a turqoise
with diamonds sparkling in it. A contrast to the rotting shell of a
shack the bar was. It was dark inside. Took a minute for my eyes to
adjust. It actually didn't look bad. Maybe all the bottles of liqour
made it seem better than it was.
