POPE JOHN XXIII GETS HIS HALO
==============================
<
VATICAN (Rueters) -- Just hours
before throwing in the towel as Pontiff,
His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI has
declared Pope John XXIII a saint of the
Roman Catholic Church.
<
"è giunto il momento" "(It's about
time"), said an older Italian woman who
was among 186,500 folks packed like
sardines in the Vatican court yard for
the surprise 2 a.m. announcement.

Everyone knows that Pope John XXIII
should've been declared a saint almost 50
years after engineering a helluva miracle
in Pennsylvania's anthracite region -- 340
feet underground, no less.
<
If you recall, some 10 weeks after his
death in June 1963, he showed up inside
the coal mine, stayed down there for more
than a week and helped save two miners
when it seemed sure they'd be packing
it in.

POPE JOHN XXIII IS SHOWN IN HIS COFFIN, DEAD AS A DOORNAIL.
<
Many say the Mine Rescue was an even
better miracle or multiplying those loaves
of brad and fishes.
Aw, read about it yourself . . .

In any event, the Vatican had been
ignoring this miracle like the plague
and had turned a deaf ear to other
incredible stories about Pope John
XXIII's many other miracles.
<
One was an elderly nun in a convent
who received a chilling phone call that
a loved one had been terribly injured
in an automobile accident and might
not live.
<
"Pope John XXIII has long been my
favorite Saint (technically untrue at
time) and I kept praying to him as I
was being rushed to the hospital,"
she told Ed Conrad, who certainly
wouldn't make this up.
<
"When we arrived at the hospital,
I rushed to her room and -- Guess
what! She was sitting up in her bed
and greeted me with a big smile."

One of Pope John's first orders after
being named Top Dog at the Vatican:

"Open the windows to let the stink out."
