POETRY SUPER HIGHWAY BOOKSTORE
POEMS FOR LONERS by DOUGLAS RICHARDSON featured this week in the PSH
Bookstore
Poems for Loners is fearless in both content and convention.
Skillfully managing both poetry and storytelling, as the author's
note states, Douglas Richardson traverses the landscape of human
anguish, offering an exceptional and luminous portrait of
subjectivity. Richardson's archetypal loner is no sad sack that dines
on bitterness, self-pity, and alienation; instead, this tragic
hero--cast in various personas--pursues human flaw, embracing the
inevitability of despair, regret, longing, and hope with profound
wryness and piercingly authentic, if not brilliantly twisted, grace.
Pieces written in first person and omniscient points of
view intermingle with recurring settings, a nifty schema that
underscores themes of yearning and searching. From the gray hollow of
the graveyard shift, the bright sun of the dry Arizona desert, to the
Los Angeles and London museums that map the collection, Poems for
Loners is a hauntingly beautiful walkabout. --Tess. Lotta, editor of
Media Cake eMagazine, poet, and writer of Perjurious Strumpet blog.

PERMANENT OBSCURITY
Inspired by the underground sexploitation films of the 1960s, this
bold updating of the "roughie" subgenre and lampoon of auteur
filmmaking largely takes place in New York City's East Village (circa
2006), and it chronicles the rise and fall of a unique and intense
relationship. Dolores and Serena, two chemically dependent,
down-and-out artists set out to take control of their lives by making
a fetish-noir/femdom movie. Of course, things don't exactly turn out
as planned. For more visit: http://permanentobscurity.com/
