Flattened Corneas
I developed floaters in both of my eyes immediately after my lasik. They are
cob web like. While they are not dense enough to block my vision, they
constant moves around. I see them in dim light, bright light, even with eyes
closed (light passes through my eye lids and I can stil see them). I know
they don't impair my normal activities, but they are just damn annoying.
I have been trying to adapt to them, but has not been very successful.
I would like to find out if people out there have done floaters only
vitrectomy. Apparently, it is a lot simpler procedure and possbily safer
than a full virtretomy????
Floaters are only the tip of the iceburg of my problems after lasik. i have
GASH so bad that my surgeon prescribed pilocarpine 4 times a day, so my
pupil is under constant constriction. Otherwise, I am totally non-functional
indoors and at night.
Patient 2:
I posted earlier about blurred vision. This blurred vision I can now define
as double vision. When I look at someone I see 4 eyes, 2 noses, and 2
mouths. What kind of help is available for this? It is extremely hard for me
to read, to work, and to cope with. I am only 8 days post-op. I went from
monovision LASIK to distance correction enhancement in both eyes. I have dry
eyes and plugs inserted. Am using Refresh Liquigel. Dr. seems to think it is
just dry eyes but after I use drops things appear brighter but still
overlapped. He also said it could be my brain getting used to using my Left
eye for distance and getting used to using them together. I realize this is
long. I am severly depressed. Am calling my medical dr. to see if he can
help me cope. Am unable to eat and sleep. Can anyone offer anything to me?
I was one of those people who had a very successful first LASIK so
enhancement did not scare me. I am desperately trying not to look back but
find ways to cope with the future.
Patient 3:
I recently had LASIK to correct -6.5, -6.0 nearsightedness. My pupils were
measured several different ways at two different doctor's offices before the
procedure. 8mm was the largest measurement and the one that the doctor who
performed the procedure put in my file. The doctor used a NIDEK EC5000
laser, which I have read conflicting information about with respect to its
ablation zone and total treatment zone. I tested 20/25, 20/30 the day after
the procedure. I suffer from terrible glare - in inside lighting conditions.
I also have pretty bad nightime starburst. I don't have halos, double
vision, hosting, or other aberations. Outside in daylight my vision is 100%
okay. If I shine a flashlight toward the side of my eye the glare virtually
disappears.

Do you have any info. on AFB of the cornea? I had Lasik surgery and
acquired AFB.

Are you saying that youhave an infection with mycobacterium? AFB
genreally means Acid-Fast Bacteria. Acid-Fast is a stain that is positive
for mycobacteria.
There are a number of case reports of patients with infections with
mycobacteria. This infection can be very, very serious, as there are reports
of patients having serious vision loss from this infection.
can you please provide more information so that I can not whether I am
on target as to what is going on with you. Please provide any information
that you want, and I will be happy to comment further.

I had LASIK surgery with a Staph infection 2-weeks post op, right eye.
The infection centered very near visual axis under the flap. After lifting
the flap 24-hours after pain/light sensitivity/loss of visual acuity
(corneal antibiotics given 8 hours after first onset), infection cleared
completely after a full 7 days. Infection left stria and scarring.
Now 1 year/2 months post-op, doctors are looking into removing flap
which contains 50-75% of scaring/stria (estimated flap to be 100-150m).
Current vision is 20/30 under office conditions, but very poor (20/100 with
ghosting and variable blur and glare) outdoors or moderate/bright lighting,
even with 11m RGP contacts for slight astigmatism and near-sightedness
(-1.00 diopters); near vision is very poor as well due to ghosting. Doctors
say PTK would create too much farsightness (+10d), which combined with my
left eye (-4.5d -- other problems created this, but RGPs have corrected
well) would create too much image size difference.
Do you have any information into flap removals or other possible
treatments?

My doctor tore 1/4 of my flap off during an epithelial ingrowth
cleaning, which subsequently caused increased epithelial cell ingrowth. Does
tearing of the flap during an epithelial cleaning occur often and should it
of not happened? It resulted in me having my whole epithelium amputated
because of cornea melting. I now have multiple images and only can hope for
better sight.

It has been 10 months since my lasik procedure which has left me with
a buttonhole in one eye. At first it was going to be three months until the
Doctor would think about repeating the procedure. I was told just the other
day that the eye has not healed properly...there is a permanant scar in the
center of the pupil. They can not repeat the Lasik procedure and might have
to do a corneal transplant or a "two procedure" type surgery to correct. I
have been wearing a contact lens in that eye since procedure...but all of a
sudden my eye is rejecting even the lens causing it to "pop" out now and
than. also, the Doctor says that my other eye is digressing. I am having
problems with night driving and night vision. Can you tell me if this a
common occurance? I am a women in my 40's and in excellent health....what
questions should I ask and what should I expect?

I had LASIK treatment on the 13th of Nov, the surgeon had a lot of
trouble getting the retainer in, he said I had small eyes which made it
painful. Suction was applied and the cut started - Then it was all over the
procedure was abandoned. It was explained to me that suction had be lost and
the surgeon wasn't going to do anymore. I understand what a short flap is,
but what I don't understand is why the cut was made around the pupil and not
the iris. Could you please help me to understand this, as I am a little
nervous of having it done again.

There are thousands of posts like those above. There are thousands of
people damaged by refractive surgery.
Okay now, Glenn, Ryan, and Co. Do your best to make these people look like
whiners and malcontents who deserved to have their eyes ruined by elective
unnecessary surgery.
