I'm getting to the point that I don't want to come here anymore and read
about another patient with large pupils who has been harmed by a LASIK
doctor. Sometimes I just want to stick my head in the sand and stay away,
and never hear about it again.
To me, it's like reading stories of pedophiles harming innocent children.
How many times do you want to hear about it? How much of it can you take?
There are some wonderful doctors out there who have written and spoken on
the importance of pupil size. I cannot thank them enough. But more has to
be done.
It's ridiculous that there is even a debate about pupil size. Duh. If you
only correct a portion of the cornea, that's fine as long as the pupil size
doesn't exceed it and allow light to pass through the portion that did not
get corrected (of course high myopia reduces the effective OZ, but for
discussion purposes, let's keep it simple). How can anybody even debate
this? Because they have a patient that doesn't complain? Well, did you ask
the right questions???? Did you measure it with w-a-v-e-f-r-o-n-t out to
the diameter of the dark-adapted pupil size, not just out to 6mm?????? Or
did you just sit the patient down in front of a Snellen chart in a well-lit
room and declare him or her a success???????
Tell you what, Doctor, let me borrow your glasses for a minute, let me
scratch them up really good and smudge and smear them badly except for just
the very center -- I'll leave the very center clear and unscratched, about 1
inch in diameter. And you walk around and try to function with these
damaged glasses, try to manage by seeing through the 1 inch in the center
that I didn't destroy. You could probably manage, couldn't you? But it
wouldn't be fun, would it? It would bother you 24/7, wouldn't it? It would
change you on the inside, constantly struggling to see through the screwed
up glasses with a 1 inch window of clear vision. Imagine that you can't
take the glasses off, ever. You go to sleep with them on, you wake up with
them on. How long could you take it, Doc? Do you think it might take the
joy out of living just a bit? Do you think your brain could adapt?
It's sickening and disgusting. They aren't much better than pedophiles in
my opinion. And they make lots of money doing it.
The love of money. Amazing that a doctor would sell out of the hippocractic
oath and everything it means to be called "Doctor" for the love of money.
