A future for green diodes?
Was browsing wikipedia and discovered this: [link] HVD - Holographic Versatile Disc "It can hold many times the amount of information as a Blu-ray disc, and the current maximum is 10TB. It employs a technique known as collinear holography, whereby two green laser beams are collimated... more »

Laser
...added alt.lasers from uk.d-i-y might be able to give you a better idea 810nm as others have commented is Infra Red , not visible to the eye. 1W is enough to cause you problems if you stare into it or its directly reflected into your eye, so dont go looking down the barrel ;-) As a certified laser for medical use etc. with its calibration certs... more »

OT Crazy old laser coot on tv..
Ok, that's the last time I tell anyone that I think some UFO's were just satellites.. So, if you wanna bit of a giggle, and see the scruffy old coot behind this typing, go check out: [link] You want to select the news for Dec. 31st. I'm in the opening teaser... more »

Happy Holidays to all you crazy wonderful laser maniacs!!
Subject says it all!!! Oh, and I finally found something that Santa can bring me: I think it was about a year ago that I may have posted something about those wacky Japanese that had invented a system for raster scanning in thin air, by colliding two yag beams at points in space. I even scanned some photo's from a mag article, but... more »

Sealed CO2 power supply testing
I have a Chinese power supply for those sealed CO2 tubes. The PSU is brand new, never been powered up since I got it. Currently, I want to test it, without a laser tube. (The tube will come later). The data sheet with the PSU is kind of difficult to understand, but seems to imply that it's a current regulator. It says it has a max... more »

eBay funny of the month
[link] Sleeves_W0QQitemZ200315913905Q QcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDo main_0?hash=item2 ea3c246b1 I think they imagine the word 'Fractured' with a capital F denotes a specialised technical selling point.

Low Power Coherent Verdi V-5
Hey Everyone, I recently got a Coherent Verdi V-5 with a missing LBO and etalon. I replaced both parts with exact copies from another identical laser. I aligned them and got the unit making green at ~16A pump current (2 10W 808nm FAP-I Diodes). After tuning the angle on the LBO and etalon then tuning temperature on both, I got the laser up to ~300mW of green.... more »

Antique Lasers?
Still looking for information and experiences with old lasers. Also interested in buying lasers and laser equipment from that time. Anything made by Hughes Aircraft company, Trion or Lear Siegler, Raytheon, Maser Optics, or Optics Technology. Also looking for some of that very old mounting hardware, like the triangular Ealing rails... more »

Coherent 532-200 Question
Hi all I have a Coherent 532-200 Ring Laser which I use for holography. I accquired a nice optical table and was thinking of mounting the laser directly on to the table. The problem with this is that there is a cooling fan in the laser which would need to be switched off before exposure took place. Once the exposure had been made the fan could be switched back on... more »
