I was in Paris over the new year break and visited a stall near the Eiffel Tower , where I bought some led equaliser t- shirts . The stall had a laser light showing red and green , randomly moving , dots tracing around the store , similar to what you might see at the movies where the thief is trying avoid . If anyone can point me in the right direction to find a distributor for this slice of awesomeness please let me know . Danka

There you are! http://www.rgb-laser.com/
You will need a diffraction len in order to have multiple beams. In general you should look for RGB lasers if you want that multicolor effect :)

Pop on over to www.photonlexicon.com and introduce yourself, then ask the
same question. There's all kinds of laser awesomeness goes on over there.

First, note that I have not seen the Paris display you are talking about.

You might consider one of disco-light type of display. The low end ones are typically either the "Spirograph effect" or perhaps what you might want more is the type with many single points of light like stars.

You might have to go to a higher dollar category to get the exact effect you saw. Note that you must have fog or haze in the air for the beam itself to be visible.

I did an "thief avoiding the alarm" game at a local carnival once. I had set up a toy "Spy Gear" type of system and substituted a laser pointer for the LED light source. Note that I also put some fog into the room, for the beams to be visible. The game was to get a piece of candy without setting off the alarm.
