I was just reading Sam's laser FAQ (an excellent FAQ and thanks to all
who work on it) and it occurred to me that a section discussing where
and how to harvest surplus lasers of all types would be a welcome
addition.

When one considers all the laser related stuff that appears on Ebay,
it all came from somewhere.

Since we are all scroungers at heart, I would think that an ongoing
section discussing different surplus equipment and its harvested
components would be of great interest.

What do you think?

Of course, there is some general info on this "topic" in the
Laser FAQ chapter: "Laser and Parts Sources". This does have
sections on ex-medical lasers, which probably represents the
single largest avenue to acquite serious lasers if you're
a true scrounger!

Though, eBay is certainly my primary supplier at this point. :)

Personally, I'd just as well leave the "harvesting" to others.
I don't want to have to buy/disassemble/dispose of a 20 foot
10 ton printer just to get an argon ion or DPSS laser and some
assorted (mostly useless) optics out of it. :)

People are of course welcome to contribute to the Laser FAQ
so anything along these lines could be incorporated.
