How can we improve PowerBASIC? I'll bet you have a great hunch, so
share it with us. A new feature suggestion? An entirely new killer
product? We really want to know what you have to say. Don't wait. Do
it now! Click on over and talk to us at http://www.powerbasic.com/support/request.html

Best regards,

Bob Zale
PowerBASIC Inc.

Start respecting customer privacy, and when customers email you with bug
reports don't treat them like criminals/pirates.

Unfortunately however, Powerbasic do NOT listen, and in my 9 years as a
Powerbasic user not one of my suggestions has ever been implemented.

Change your user forums policy and allow anonymous identities.

Your current policy that requires users to identify themselves with
their real, actual name is absurd and unenforcable anyways (you don't
really know if the user is providing their real name).

Is this a joke?
You ban registered users, make threads dissapear faster than a cheap
vegas magician, refuse to sell registered users like me the latest
upgrade and you want to know how to improve the product?
The product is fine Mr Zale (if you don't need OOP), YOU are the
problem.
You are single handedly destroying an otherwise fine product by
denying users access to the support forums which is critical for new
users.
I have reached out to you over and over and yet you refuse to play
nice.

Hello Mr. Guy--

Seriously, we appreciate your input. However, we have some very good
reasons for this policy--

1- We have thousands of members -- The vast majority highly approve
of the policy; we hear from many of them daily. Even the real person
behind the false identity "Wayne Diamond" posted the other day that
this gives our forums a professional atmosphere not found elsewhere.
Here's what he said on the Jose Roca Forum:

"I actually do like how the PB Forum asks new users to use their real
names, because with real-named people rather than whacky aliases it
does give the general feel of the forum a more professional one, and
that's a good setting for a software development forum..."

2- We've maintained this policy very successfully for over 12 years.
We've found that folks are much less likely to be abusive when they
have to stand behind their words. Just look at the vicious words here
from the false identities of "Mike Trader" and "Wayne Diamond".
That's proof in and of itself. Slander and false garbage is almost
non-existent at PowerBASIC. Here, it's rampant.

3- What will they do when the real "Wayne Diamond" or "Mike Trader"
shows up?

4- What will they do when someone decides to start posting under the
real name of the person(s) behind those false identities?

5- Wayne Diamond recently posted advertising on the PowerBASIC Forums
which solicited contract programming for a fee. He may be honorable,
or maybe not, but his deception doesn't bode well for him. Should I
really allow him to solicit cash payments from PowerBASIC customers
when they don't even know who they are paying? Frankly, most of our
customers expect us to protect them from such dangers (on our forums)
and we'll continue to be vigilant.

6- Real names make you look like an adult. Calling yourself
"AlligatorBaby" lacks sincerity and authenticity. There is absolutely
no "danger" in the use of your real name, as long as you aren't
foolish enough to provide other personal information to back it up.

There's more, but I think you get the idea? For now, anyone deceiving
with a false identity is subject to sanction. Those who cooperate
have ready access to a huge amount of valuable programming
information. Close to 350,000 messages from good programmers, just
like you. Thousands of downloads. Thousands of sample programs. And
some of the best programming minds in the industry. I hope you'll
visit us soon at www.powerbasic.com

uh huh....

Rubbish.. they simply have no choice and with your finger on the
delete button, no voice to express otherwise.
*ERROR 513, FACTUAL INNACURACY*

> We've maintained this policy very successfully for over 12 years.

The Chineese government has successfully maintained their control of
Tibet for longer than that, which proves absolutely nothing either.
following your logic means all the Tibetans are happy with it? *ERROR
576, LOGICAL INCONSITENCY*

>What will they do when the real "Wayne Diamond" or "Mike Trader" shows up?

Huh? *ERROR 538, GARBLED SYNTAX*

>What will they do when someone decides to start posting under the real name of the person(s) behind those false identities?

I think this is what you meant to say above, what is the implication?
that people have multiple aliases... yes, and?
*ERROR 575, REDUNDANT STATEMENT*

>but his deception doesn't bode well for him.

Zale wake up. Online handles have been sensible common practice since
the internet began. I am afraid re-writing online culture is beyond
the capabilities of even your ego.
*ERROR 579, EGO OUT OF BOUNDS*

>Real names make you look like an adult.

Well thats YOUR opinion, and you are welcome to it. Forcing everyone
else to comply with it is not welcome.
*ERROR 546, REALITY MISMATCH*

>There's more...
Well lets have it. So far you got nothing.
*ERROR 584, DECLARATION STATEMENTS MISSING*

>For now, anyone deceiving with a false identity is subject to sanction.

Yes we are all painfully aware of that. Of course you forgot to
mention that the sanctioning part is at your discresion. When you
agreed to let me use my handle (in person on the phone) I believed you
(as apparently did Wayne).

It's difficult to retain credibility when you start arguing for this
policy after allowing even one person (let alone a bunch of us) to use
an alias.

*POST FAIL*

I have been contributing source code to the Powerbasic forums for NINE
YEARS, and Bob Zale knows my full name - I have afterall purchased a lot of
PB software including PBDOS, PBDLL, PBCC, and PBWIN, and for the last 9
years I have been contributing source code to the forum, mostly system,
crypto and security-related algorithms.

And for 9 years Bob Zale hasn't had a problem with that, but now he's done a
180 for some reason that nobody knows about.

This is how the head of Powerbasic (Bob Zale) treats and describes his
customers.

Insteresting isn't it?????
