We at Shoptalk Systems are excited to announce Run BASIC - a completely
new kind of BASIC, for creating programs that run in a browser!

http://www.runbasic.com

No special web programming knowledge is needed to use this free site!
If you know a little BASIC that is enough to open up new possibilities
for your web browsing experience. If you don't know any BASIC, just
visit the site and click the Learn tab for an interactive learning
experience.

If you are interested in web programming or if you enjoy programming in
BASIC, you owe it to yourself to check out Run BASIC!

See you there!

There are a few other online or browser-based Basic interpreters, some
new, some old.

Server based:

Quite Basic: http://www.quitebasic.com/

plus a few Basic interpreters in Javascript:

NG-BASIC for Javascript:
http://navahogunleg.net/blog/my-projects/ng-basic/

Javascript Basic Interpreter: http://eder.us/projects/jbasic/

plus one in Java:

TRS-80 Model 1 BASIC Interpreter:
http://ganley.org/software/trs80.html

Hot Tea Basic in Java appears to no longer be around online.

Some of those are interesting. The Quite BASIC site is recent and has
some interesting ideas. I've had some interaction with Quite BASIC's
creator and I like his educational focus. I hope that our site will
also be useful to educators.

What we're developing is an easy way to develop real web apps using a
simple BASIC language without needing to resort to CGI, Javascript,
Perl, etc. We've got some interesting ideas and what you see on our
site only scratches the surface of what we're working on.

Later. :-)

It's an interesting set of uses. I've heard of people who are
running the linux or Solaris builds of Chipmunk Basic on web servers
for CGI services in Basic. Others have reportedly used Chipmunk
Basic's socket I/O features on the client side to do web data
mining. I've even built a private custom version allowing one to
run an entire web server written in Basic, but there are major
security implications of not doing this with extreme robustness
these days.

Yes there are always security implications no matter what your web
implementation platform is. BASIC (which one?) is no more or less
vulnerable than any other language in this regard.
