newbie: can't receive files

Hi,
I've just installed mirc 6.01. i can't seem to receive dcc files.
i've done options > dcc > on send request, show get dialog, and yet it
still won't show me a dialog box when someone tries to send me a file.
being a newbie to irc, this could be something to do with me. do i
need to type /get dcc something?
