  Twelve years is pretty good for a ZIP disk. Of course, it should have &lt;br&gt; been removed from the drive and stored in its neat, plastic box when &lt;br&gt; not in use. Magnetic media and the substrate do deteriorate when exposed &lt;br&gt; to the elements. If the information on the disk is important, consider &lt;br&gt; using a professional recovery outfit.

  I haven&#39;t used a 250, but the 100 had an emergency eject hole in the &lt;br&gt; back of the drive. You could stick a straightened paper clip in there &lt;br&gt; to force the drive to eject the disk. I would expect the 250 would &lt;br&gt; have that as well. Remove power from the drive before using it.
