From time to time, people ask if the Interpedia project-- to get a
full, free encyclopedia on the Net in some form-- is still happening
anywhere. The closest descendent I know of is:

<URL:http://members.aol.com/distency/home.htm>
The Distributed Encyclopedia Homepage

The following Interpedia-related URLs seem to be defunct:

<URL:http://www.halcyon.com/jensen/encyclopedia/>Encyclopedia
<URL:http://204.32.221.16/>Global Encyclopedia

Project Gutenberg is very slowly getting the 11th edition of the
Britannica scanned in, though they're not allowed to use that name,
and so far it's only available in big, one-volume files.

Two other old encyclopedias are appearing faster:

1913 Catholic Encyclopedia

<URL:http://www.digicity.com/vlibrary/volume.htm>
1918 Volume Library

Several sites take the approach of bringing together only high-content
links, sorted by subject, instead of encyclopedia essays:

Argus Clearinghouse

Librarians' Index to the Internet

<URL:http://ipl.sils.umich.edu/ref/>
Internet Public Library

<URL:http://www.fpsol.com/gems/webgems.html>
Discovery Center: WebGEMS

And this one is similar, but computer-related only, with very good links:

<URL:http://www.sandybay.com/pc-web/>
PC Webopedia

And here's a one-man encyclopedia of Internet technology:

Connected: An Internet Encyclopedia
