I am working on behalf of Google and Yahoo

I received a call on my cell phone today (it is my whois phone
number).

A lady with a thick Indian accent called from a noisy location.

She told me that she wants to speak to the "head of the company". Then
she said that she is working "on behalf of Google and Yahoo". Then she
asked me if I heard of "Link Popularity Program".

At this point I recalled having been called by some other indian scam
("Internet registry something or other") I was not interested. (and a
few other words about not working for scam companies, nothing unsavory
though)

My question is whether anyone else received such phone calls.

Did she say it like {Google and Yahoo} or {{Google} and {Yahoo}}? The former
would indicate it's *most* definitely a scam, but either way, it's
definitely a scam. Haven't heard of such stories, but telemarketers are one
of the reasons I rarely answer the phone (never at work). It's like SPAM.

I had something similar and when I asked them to clarify they backed
down and totally reworded what they were trying to sell which was pay
per click advertising. I put the phone down.

I am very lucky in some respects as I always (well, usually) know when I
am getting a cold call sales call as I hung up on the marketer who
originally asked for my company details and then sold them to every
living soul who wanted to buy them - but as I hung up they must have
substituted my name as when I get calls for the alias name I either hang
up, put them on hold until *they* hang up or I have a little fun with
them. :-)

yeah ive had something similar too... i say words to the effect of "so
you're an employee of Google" they typically squirm and say theyre
working as a partner or some other waffle.
