it's the default search on the home page, and I get great results for
many of my search phrases (Gym Equipment etc) so it must be good!

I just heard about the Yodogo project ( http://www.yodogo.com ) that
has been launched (in test mode) a few days ago and might be an
"alternative" to Google for some people since it supports a good cause.
Yodogo actually uses Google´s search technology, so it´s not really
an alternative to Google in terms of search efficiency. The search
results will display exactly the same as on Google. But if visitors
click on a "sponsored link", Yodogo earns money and makes a donation to
Unicef. Their goal is to get many users and to donate 1000000 $ by the
end of 2007.
I like the idea of searching the web and doing something good at the
same time and can´t think of a reason not to use it. You can even
download a plugin to use Yodogo in the instant search box in IE7 and
FF2.
What do you think?

Up until a week ago, I had never used the default search function built
into Windows operating system. Since new people, don't know much, a

MSN Still has NOT updated my change of Description Tag for my home
page. In that regard, MSN's info is more likely to be out of date.
I like to use Google's home page as my browser's home page since it is
simple in design and loads fast. Funny thing about their home page is
that on 3 different browsers and/or computers their home page looks
very different.
My preference for research is to use complex search strings that look
for extremely specific information. I really need to test out the
other search engines. I know that when you make an extremely simple
search all that you really get is the Desc Tag, which may or may not
have anything to do with page content. I want to test them for qualty
of page content in their SERPs.
I will respond to the other posts this evening when I am home from work.

I operationally tested the following search engines: AltaVista - A9 -
AOL - Clusty - Gigablast - Google - Lycos - MSN - Teoma - Wisenut -
Yahoo with the following search string.
history "slave women" America Antebellum OR "popular health movement"
healers herbs OR roots
I only looked at the top 3 results from each search engine.
AOL and WiseNut failed to work at all. AOL refused to work with my web
browser. WiseNut choked on my search string which was too long.
A9, Lycos, and MSN recommeded www.robertsonsroots.com, a site that is
under construction!!! Those results are absolutely pathetic under any
definition.
Google's top site returned was a book from Amazon.com which proves that
their search results are FIXED or targeted at commerical sites, even on
a clearly academic search. Why am I not surprized?
Gigablast, AltaVista, and Clusty returned the most promising Page
Content results assuming that you are indeed interested in page
content.
Yahoo and Teoma / Ask.com results were too short to be worth a hoot!
Not enough information was returned in order to make an intelligent
decision.

I like GigaBlast the best. And, they offer webmasters a very large
variety of search tools to add to web sites ... unlike Google. It
appears to be using MSN technology, but their web searches return
radically better results than MSN.

Yes, I am well aware of the fact that the typical Internet user is a

99.99999% certain to be a scam. They almost certainly keep most of what they
take for 'admin costs'.
95% certain they are ripping off Google, not doing it with permission.
90% certain Unicef knows nothing about it.
If you care about Unicef, send 'em some cash - cut out the middle man.
