I am reletively new to BitComet and I have read about programs such as
PeerGuardian 2.0 which block your IP while sharing. I am running Vista
64bit and I was hoping to get a concensus from this group regarding
how to block my IP while using BitComet.
Does PeerGuardian do a good job in Vista 64bit or are there better
solutions?
Peer Guardian doesn't block your IP, it only blocks the ability
of spies to *connect* to you, and not even all of them, because
there are new ones all the time.
I'm sure others can provide better answers regarding IP blocking.
But I still do recommend using Peer Guardian 2 (not the "lite"
version which WinMX now bundles and can be disabled from starting
so a user can run the original Peer Guardian 2, last version
dated 2007) because it still does block connection attempts from
a lot of spies if you update it every day. Other than that, I
still don't know how to manually check out peers with torrent
apps, but in WinMX at least you can check out the users
connecting to you, and ban them if they're leeches or look
suspicious.
But, I have not tried running PG2 under Vista, or any 64bit OS,
so I don't know how well it works.
As already posted, PG doesn't hide your IP address. For that you need a
proxy server or a Virtual Private Network such as the one offered by
Himachi.
