Ok folks, There hasn't been much here for awhile, so let do a roll call. My name is Pam Reece. We just celebrated Nathan's first bday last Sunday. Nathan is a metrodin baby and was conceived after nine very long years. We will start a fertinex cycle in December...if all goes well. We begin the long referral process on the 17th. Let's here from the rest of you.

Hi I'm Jayne from England - We just celebrated our daughter Abigail's first birthday last month. It took us over 10 years to achieve our dream but the wait has been worth it. Parenthood is wonderful and it just gets better and better.
During our struggle to have a child we tried clomid, metrodin, pergonal and IVF. I have PCO and also a very thin womb lining and none of the treatments worked although I did become pregnant twice while not on treatment and my last miscarriage was over 6 years ago. We then tried to adopt but found this very difficult. It took nearly 3 years just to get approved for adoption. When we finally reached the end of the process my mum died of cancer. We were then told we would have to grieve for at least a year before they would put us on the waiting list. I felt this was just another tactic to get rid of us so we turned to surrogacy.
Surrogacy worked like a dream for us. We contacted COTS, (Childlessness Overcome Through Surrogacy) in Scotland and within weeks a surrogate mother chose us. We met up, got to know each each, went through all the medicals, counselling etc and within a few months we were pregnant. I still can't believe I am a mum and sometimes wake up thinking it is all a dream until I hear our daughter crying for her morning milk!
We are now trying for our second child and are currently on our second cycle of treatment. It is just as hard as it was before. The first 3 weeks of the cycle seem to fly by but the last week crawls by. During this last week I try to keep myself busy but jump every time the phone rings as it could be our surrogate with either good or bad news. Every day she is late brings us nearer to a positive pregnancy test but it could also be a false alarm as it was last cycle!
Fertile thoughts and good luck to everyone currently having treatment.
I'm Lisa. We have a beautiful 6 year old son and 5 angels. We have been trying for three years to expand our family. I have been treated with several cycles of Clomid, Metrodin and Fertinex along with IUI. My last miscarry was 1 year ago. We start another cycle of Fertinex in late November.
Happy fertile thoughts to all of you. I'll keep everyone in my prayers.
Lisa G from Virginia
PS This newsgroup makes me feel better to know that I am not alone. Especially since all of the information is helpful and positive.
We have a two year old daughter conceived with Clomid and IUI. It took nine cycles. I am now on my first cycle using Fertinex. The IUI was last Friday so now I'm in the waiting period.
Debra, I'm beginning to experience those nervous feelings about starting this up again. I dread the shots and those long RE appts. Any suggestions? Pam
We have a 9 1/2 year old daughter, concieved with no problem. After that, I never resumed my cycles. Tried in 1994 with clomid, got pregnant, but lost him into the 12th week. I haven't really been tryin since then, but look forward to trying in Feb or March.
Hi, I am new to this newsgroup. My daughter turned 3 in October. We have been back on this roller coaster since summer of 96. I took Clomid in June, July, August, September and October. I them took a much needed vacation until June of this year. I did my first cycle of Fertinex in June, unsuccessful, had residual cysts and sat out a very long 50 day cycle. I did the 2nd round, which was unsuccessful and am now on day 24 of a "sit out"cycle. I am waiting for AF to show so I can get on with a little more aggressive treatment.
Hi Dana, Welcome to the group. What is the agressive treatment you will be starting? Did you respond well to fertinex? I know it's hard to try so hard and come up empty handed each time. Have the drs told you why it's difficult for you this round? Pam
I don't know if I've posted our roll call yet, but here goes.
We have a 19-month-old daughter courtesy of IVF with donor sperm.
We decided to try ICSI/IVF for a second child, which we did unsuccessfully in August. I had a period shortly thereafter, but haven't had one since. Consequently, I haven't been able to start another round of IVF.
Our clinic shuts down during the month of December, so I'm forced to wait until mid-January to start again. I feel as if I've been drumming my infertile fingers on a table for a very long time now.
Hi Valerie, I certainly understand about drumming those fingers. I finally was able to get the dr appt today to get the referral to continue treatments...thanks to insurance changes. Doesn't this game sound familiar? Now it will probably be my luck that my clinic will not accept me once my period starts because of the upcoming holidays. And I'm finally building myself back up to those shots, etc... I hope to find out that what made #1 a miracle will work for #2. Pam

Alicia Andrews in the UK, son aged 28months conceived with no trouble at all on second month. Now trying for this year. Drs in July - GP suspected PCO. Referred to Fertility clinic (how pc);) Partner (with whom had first child) has low(ish) sperm count. 25 million, 80% motile, 38% normal forms(my clinic looks for 40% so they don't think this is much of a problem. Aged 33
Me aged 31, subsequent blood tests normal, day 21 progesterone levels 33 and 36 in two tests. U/s in mid Nov apparantly normal ovaries and (day12) a 14mm follicle. No visible PCOS. PCT on same day not positive RE suggested poor mucus too early. BBTS show signs of ovulation, menses vary between 23 and 28 days, usually 25 to 28.
Treatment More blood and semen tests and BBTs to come. RE seems to think we are pretty normal, but just not having sex at the right time. So why aren't I pregnant yet... -- Alicia Andrews

Hello
I am also new to this newsgroup. My son turned 3 in August. I think I must be in the back seat of the same roller coaster, Dana, as we've been trying since '96 as well. My problem is that I simply don't ovulate. I did Clomid for 6 months, one month of Fertinex and still no ovulation. The doctor switched me to Pergonal and I had a viable follicle within a week. Followed the rest of the program and just learned today it was unsuccessful. I came here looking for a sympathetic ear as I know no one who is also going through this. How does everyone keep their spirits up month after month?
Kent, I'm surprised they didn't do a sperm count before the dye test. Yes, you should have the sperm anaylsis done. Have they done any blood work on your dw? This might open some doors to you also. Pam

This is my first time posting to this (or any) ng. I'm glad to see something happening here for those of us with secondary infertility. Our son will turn 8 in January. Conceived how? We really haven't a clue -- I do know exactly WHEN he was conceived (unfortunately, even back then, it was too easy to keep track of those *whens*). Had a full-blown period that time after conceiving, so had no clue I was pregnant until about 6-7 weeks into it. Boy that's hard to imagine now, when every day is fraught with meaning and potential meaning. We started trying for a second child back in 93. Have done most all of the usual diagnostic tests (HSG, endom. biopsy, sa), tried a month or two with Clomid. No conceptions, as far as I can tell. Frustrating for me, because my Mom seemed to be extremely fertile, my younger sister has had two kids in the time I've been trying (both unplanned!). In the meantime, I've had a year off trying while on medication for panic disorder... fun. I'm about to go back to the RE next week and start again. I'm just not sure where we'll want to go with this. My son is perfect, wonderful, but I still mourn for all the possibilities -- the other children I'd always assumed I'd have.
Best of luck to all of you. It is nice to know we're not alone.
