It's an Orb Weaver, or garden spider. Just like Charlotte. This is the
kind of spider that spins the typical looking wheel shaped spider web. It
is the 3rd most common type of spider found in the world, with lots of
variations in size and color. They are shy and reluctant to bite, although
if they do, their venom is potent, but not dangerous to humans.

I wouldn't kill it. It's doing you a great service eating all sorts of
moths and other flying insects. Leave it be, if at all possible, and use it
as a teaching tool. If the web is in an inconvenient location, such as
across your walkway or something, then I'd wait until it's not in it's web,
and then take the web down with a broom. It will probably rebuild, but if
you do this several times, it should get the clue and move on. It's amazing
though, as it will completely rebuild it's web over night.

Great photo!

know so much about spiders?? LOL Just curious. I looked everywhere
for info on spiders and couldn't find much. There was a ton on black
widows and brown recluse etc.... Thanks i love taking pictures of
nature!! Jake loves to take pictures too but i think he was scared of
it!! LOL Wouldn't that be cool if she was a special spider like
Charlotte?? LOL

Cool pic! Funny, last-night I went out in the garage and there was the
BIGGEST spider I have ever seen in my life! I was sooo freaked out. It
kind of looked like a wolf spider, but bigger than any I've ever seen.
And, it would kind of raise up in a threatening poster before it would
run. I went to get my DH to kill it (yes, I am a wuss!), but it was
gone when we came back. I usually only have DH kill spiders inside the
house (unless I see one outside that is dangerous), but I am so scared
to run into that thing again grabbing stuff out of the garage. Ugh!

Clarice,
I'm no spider expert, just an expert in Google! Actually, I had a feeling
it was an orb spider -- my brother had a big one that lived in his back yard
for a few years, and would make the most amazing webs. I just googled "Orb
Spider" and checked out a couple sites, including Wikipedia and checked out
photos to verify. Then I typed in "Orb Spider poisonous" to verify that it
wasn't. My guess is that you typed in "poisonous spiders" which is why only
Black Widows and Brown Recluses came up.

Hey Clarice,

(I'm from aiPrimary) Here in Illinois we call those nasty things
Banana Spiders. My 4 year old niece has had nightmares about them
because we have them at my parents house. YUCK!!! Growing up on a
farm, we got to see all kinds of spiders, lol. Now I live in town
with DH and we have centipedes!!! Talk about gross!

Good luck with your spidey!!

It's an orb weaver spider, not poisonous, good for your yard/garden!
Don't kill it!
