We finally got out to take pictures with the bluebonnets,
got home and now we're under a possible tornado alert!!
Only in Texas. :-)

I don't want to brag but--heck, yes I will!! :-)
The pictures turned out simply beautiful. Of course I am
somewhat biased about the main subject, LOL!

We took these pictures on an exit ramp while the weather was still nice
earlier...it was windy but looked nice in most of Maya's pictures. Maya
took a single picture of me and had me centered just perfect! So she was
quite proud of herself. :-)

I hope I did that right! Let me know if you can't see them.

I'm going to frame some of these and put them in my kitchen nook area
where I have an assortment of Texas/bluebonnet themed items. Someone
on one of my scrapbooking groups suggested taking pictures in the
bluebonnets, a big tradition here. I hadn't even thought about it since
we came back to Texas since we usually don't get the bluebonnets so
close! I'm glad I was able to find some because the pictures turned
out absolutely gorgeous! (Well, not the one of me, LOL.)

Wow--what beautiful photos, Carolyne (of course, not so surprising,
considering the subjects)!

I noticed the bluebonnets when I was out driving along a parkway the other
day (right in town--I was surprised I could find some that weren't out in
the country). DH, Rayna, and I are going to have to take a drive along Hwy
71 (toward Austin) soon to see the blaze of color from the bluebonnets and
Indian paintbrushes before they're all gone for another year.

Thanks, Mary! :-)

There were patches of the Indian paintbrushes too, but on medians with
no shoulders, so we couldn't get to them...the weather started turning
bad so I didn't look too carefully, but I may try to take Maya's
pictures with some later this week. They were beautiful too.

Beautiful pictures! Hard to believe they were taken just off an exit ramp
and not in the middle of nowhere. Well, until the last one where you can
see the signs. I like the first one especially. It looks very
professional, like it should be a poster.

That was the part of our trip to TX that I enjoyed the most, seeing all the
Bluebonnets. I wanted to pick some so badly, but I didn't want to get
arrested either LOL.

Carolyne, when I saw that picture I thought that this is the kind of picture
you take to an artist and have a painting made from it. It is gorgeous!
Maya just is more beautiful every picture I see!

You really need to blow one up and frame it. I like #8 but so many
were quite beautiful!

We have something similar here with the clover - when it blooms it is
in huge blankets across the fields. Absolutely stunning!
They are wonderful pics, Carolyne. Ya done good! :)

You could have picked a few, if you were careful. :-)

"Picking Bluebonnets: It is illegal to damage or remove property from
State lands - which can be interpreted to mean picking bluebonnets along
state highways and other state property although there is no specific
"no picking bluebonnets" law. Protect our state flower. Admire them.
Photograph them. But don't pick the bluebonnets."

Yeah, I was really surprised, because the wind was blowing so fast,
and traffic (not next to us, but a stone's throw away, was really loud
and she hates loud noises), and it didn't look like the flash worked--
the camera is on its last legs, so I really didn't expect a picture at
all! She did a good job though! Thanks, Jo!

Isn't that something? I found that you could angle the camera just the
right way and it looked like a much bigger field of flowers--I'll
probablly take out the ramp signs (and the light pole coming out of
my head, LOL) with my photo touchup program.

Thanks, Kelly!

Thanks, Megan! They turned out much better than I even imagined!

The bluebonnets apparently are native here only in Texas (could
be a myth though!) and only come out for a short time each spring.
Lady Bird Johnson, IIRC, was very instrumental in getting the highway
medians seeded so that they would be beautiful in the spring, and
they sure are. Long stretches of empty freeways are just gorgeous
with bluebonnets, Indian paintbrushes, and other wildflowers!!

In Richardson, not far from here, they have a Wildflower festival
(Or they used to!) every spring to celebrate as well. We went to
a few before Maya was born and had a lot of fun. I need to research
and see if they do that anymore.

Interesting! I never knew that there was no specific "no picking

That was accidental, I assure you! The lighting and the way she turned
was just all natural, and it seems 'soft' lighting on it, and it does
look like one of those pastel paintings they make! I'm hanging this one
for sure in my kitchen nook.

I've already made some 8x10s of a few (#8 is one of them) but I
think I'll print some smaller ones to hang in the kitchen nook as
well. So many turned out soooooooo pretty, it's hard to choose just
one or two! :-)

Thanks, L!

Yes, there was an article in the newspaper a few days ago. Apparently
it is one of the myths that has become 'truth' through the years. I
remember teaching 4th grade Texas history and telling kids that it
was against the law to hurt bluebonnets by picking them too! That
was before I was net-savvy and could research the truth. :-)

Beautiful pictures Carolyne! You even got one of yourself. That's neat. Maya
is such a pretty girl. Do you know if she knows she's pretty? I'm curious at
what age kids realize what they look like to others.

Your pictures reminded me of the time I lived in Dallas, and a bunch of us
drove from Dallas to San Antonio (through Austin and Houston). We have lots
of pictures with the blue bonnets. They are truly something.

Oh, yeah, she *knows*. ;-)
Doesn't really go to her head, but lately she's been into 'fashion' and
uses that word instead of 'model'--"Mom, I'm a fashion, and fashions
don't do <insert whatever>!" Too funny. She's very girly girly, and her
aunt gave her a makeup box for her birthday that she just
loveslovesloves. :-) She really is a princess. This morning, she came up
to me and said, "I command that you give me some of dad's chewing gum!"
just like that. ;-) I told her that I command she use the magic word,
which she did. Something tells me she may have been read too many fairy
tale stories! :-)
