In case you never heard of Eva Braun: "Eva Braun 1912-1945 Hitler's
mistress from 1932 and his wife during the last few hours of his
life, Eva Braun was born in Munich, the daughter of a school
teacher. Of middle-class Catholic background, she first met Hitler
in the studio of his photographer friend, Heinrich Hoffmann
(q.v.), in 1929, describing him to her sister, Ilse, as "a
gentleman of a certain age with a funny moustache and carrying a
big felt hat."

At that time Eva Braun still worked for Hoffmann as
an office assistant, later becoming a photo laboratory worker,
helping to process pictures of Hitler. The blonde, fresh-faced,
slim, photographer's assistant was an athletic girl, fond of
skiing, mountain climbing and gymnastics as well as dancing.
After the death of Geli Raubal, Hitler's niece, she became his
mistress, living in his Munich flat, in spite of the opposition of
her father who disliked the association on political and personal
grounds. In 1935, after an abortive suicide attempt, Hitler bought
her a villa in a Munich suburb, near to his own home, providing
her with a Mercedes and a chauffeur for personal use. In his first
will of 2 May 1938 he put her at the top of his personal bequests -
in the event of his death she was to receive the equivalent of
£600 a year for the rest of her life. In 1936 she moved to
Hitler's Berghof at Berchtesgaden where she acted as his hostess.
Reserved, indifferent to politics and keeping her distance from
most of the Fuhrer's intimates, Eva Braun led a completely
isolated life in the Fuhrer's Alpine retreat and later in Berlin.
They rarely appeared in public together and few Germans even knew
of her existence.

Even the Fuhrer's closest associates were not
certain of the exact nature of their relationship, since Hitler
preferred to avoid suggestions of intimacy and was never wholly
relaxed in her company.

Eva Braun spent most of her time
exercising, brooding, reading cheap novelettes, watching romantic
films or concerning herself with her own appearance. Her loyalty
to Hitler never flagged. After he survived the July 1944 plot she
wrote Hitler an emotional letter, ending: "From our first meeting
I swore to follow you anywhere--even unto death--I live only for
your love." In April 1945 she joined Hitler in the Fuhrerbunker,
as the Russians closed in on Berlin. She declined to leave in
spite of his orders, claiming to others that she was the only
person still loyal to him to the bitter end. "Better that ten
thousand others die than he be lost to Germany," she would
constantly repeat to friends. On 29 April 1945 Hitler and Eva
Braun were finally married. The next day she committed suicide by
swallowing poison, two minutes before Hitler took his own life. On
Hitler's orders, both bodies were cremated with petrol in the
Reich Chancellery garden above the bunker. Her charred corpse was
later discovered by the Russians.

The rest of Eva Braun's family
survived the war. Her mother, Franziska, who lived in an old

electricity plant, a Dutch gas plant and an oil refinery in
Trieste, Italy.

In 1975, the presence of Arafat and his 15,000-
strong army in Lebanon triggered a bloody civil war that raged on
for nearly two decades, costing 40,000 lives. Arafat was
banished from Jordan to Lebanon in 1970 in the course of a violent
war against the PLO by King Hussein, and from Lebanon to Tunis in
1982 following the Peace for Galilee War. He orchestrated the
first "intifada," beginning in 1987, from Tunis, though it had
supposedly started spontaneously. In 1994, following the

American officials have asked the U.S. Congress to restore funding
that was to be used to beef up weapons, ammunition and other
materiel for Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas's Force 17
personal militia last year.

The reason: Fatah lost a massive amount of military supplies when
its Gaza forces were vanquished by Hamas last week in the PA civil
war.

A PA official warned during the Hamas takeover that the terrorist
faction had succeeded in grabbing "thousands of rifles, large
amounts of ammunition and dozens of vehicles," including armored
jeeps and armored personnel carriers supplied by the U.S., Egypt and
Israel. "This is really bad news for all," he said.

According to the State Department, Assistant Secretary of State
David Welch submitted the request at the end of recent Congressional
hearings to restore $27 million in aid to the Fatah militia in order
to help Force 17 re-arm.

The original aid package, more than $50 million, was approved six
months ago to help train the Fatah forces under the direct
supervision of U.S. military envoy Lt.-Gen. Keith Dayton.

The package was trimmed by half however, after Secretary of State
Condoleezza Rice warned she could not guarantee that Hamas would not
end up with the equipment supplied by the U.S.

Thousands of weapons and other materiel were shipped to the PA
militia from American allies Egypt and Jordan, with Israel 's full
knowledge and approval. Of those, however, many were confiscated by
Hamas as it won smaller skirmishes with Fatah over the year.

Lt.-Gen. Dayton's performance is now being questioned in the wake of
his protégés' stunning defeat at the hands of Hamas terrorists in
Gaza , who honed their military skills under the tutelage of Iranian-
backed Hizbullah terrorists in Syria , Lebanon and possibly Iran .

The lion's share of Fatah's foreign-sent weaponry was lost to Hamas
when the Gaza contingent of Force 17 caved in at the end of last
week, fulfilling a prophecy confided months ago to WND journalist
Aaron Klein.

Hamas' Al Aqsa Television broadcast footage on Thursday and Friday
of Hamas gunmen brandishing American assault rifles, rocket-
propelled grenades, rocket launchers and ammunition the U.S.
reportedly provided to Fatah over the past few months. Hamas
fighters also showed what they said were 10 American-provided
armored personnel carriers the terror group said it seized from U.S.-
backed Fatah security compounds it took over on Tuesday.

Abu Abdullah, a senior member of Hamas' military wing commented, "We
informed you many times we would obtain all American arms brought to
Gaza in the conspiracy against our government." Abdullah told WND
that Hamas is now "swimming" in American weapons.
Most of the American aid and weapons were transferred to Fatah's
Force 17 fighters unit, which serves as Abbas' Presidential Guard
and de facto police officers in Gaza and Judea and Samaria.
Many members of Force 17 are openly members of the Al Aqsa Martyrs
Brigades terror group, Fatah's declared "military wing" which took
responsibility for many suicide bombings in Israel the past two
years. The Jewish State regularly arrests Force 17 members accused
of carrying out shooting attacks against Israelis."

On February 9, the Washington magazine US News & World Report ran a
cover story captioned: Hostage to Terror, What the US Can Do The
face on the cover was that of American Professor Robert Polhill, who
was kidnapped January 24 in Beirut, by a master of terror named in
print for the first time in that article: Imad Mughniyeh.
One particular paragraph of that spine-chilling expose sheds a harsh
light on the fate of Mugniyeh's victims:
Intelligence sources have told U.S.News that some of the hostages
(American and European), when first captured, are brought to a sound-
proofed basement of a building in Dahya where they are blindfolded
and chained to their beds. It is only after they have been held for
some time that the blindfolds are removed and the hostages are
allowed to stretch their legs. When they are transported to
different locations, it is done secretly: Some have even been
carried in trunks and cardboard boxes.

Inevitably, most of the decisions regarding the hostages in Dahya
are made by one man. His name, sources say, is Imad Mughniyeh, a
Palestinian Shiite with close ties to Iran.
This name struck the intelligence community like a thunderbolt -
especially when the writer went on to uncover new aspects of that
Palestinian Shiite's trail of terror: the Beirut hostage-taking
dramas of the 1980s, the bombings and other atrocities, notably the
devastating explosion at the US embassy in Beirut in April 1983, in
which 63 Americans died and the entire top rank of the CIA's Middle
East-Persian Gulf department, 29 officers in all, were massacred,
including the brilliant Middle East desk chief Robert Ames.
The article carried two striking revelations: The US embassy was not
ravaged by a truck-bomb as reported then and since, but by a bomb
planted on the floor above the conference room in which the CIA
officers assembled.

DEBKAfile's intelligence sources disclose for the first time, 19
years after the event, that two minutes after the CIA chiefs took
their seats in that room, the explosive charge was detonated by
remote control.
The second revelation shows up a little-known facet of Mughniye's
murky past: Up until 1982, when he burst on the Shiite terrorist
world of Beirut, Mughniye was a member of Yasser Arafat's personal
guard, Force 17, when the Fatah group was one of the fiercest
warring militias of the savage Lebanese civil war.
The embassy bombing must have been executed with the help of an
inside informer or a mole. So secret was the top-level CIA
conference that only a trusted insider would have known enough to
give its timing away to the bomber. That insider had to have pre-
knowledge of the meeting and be present in the building to signal
the outside detonator. That was one of many clues to how deeply US
intelligence was penetrated.

That problem was not attacked, any more than the terror menace that
began sprouting then. Instead, after suffering a series of terror
strikes, Washington turned its back and ordered the US Marines and
other Americans to leave war-torn Lebanon and go home.
Switching fast forward to early 1996, 1997 and 1998, DEBKAfile's
intelligence sources discover intelligence building up in the Middle
East and the US on operational relations developing between
Mughniyeh and the young Saudi Islamic firebrand Osama Bin Laden, on
the one hand, and between Mugniyeh and his erstwhile boss Arafat, on
the other.

>From March 1997 on, US and Israeli intelligence discover the
collaboration between the Palestinian Shiite and the Saudi
fundamentalist deepening. Mughniyeh's hand is detected in setting up
the 1998 US embassy bombings in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam.
Then on October 7, 2000, ten days after Yasser Arafat launched his
intifada confrontation with Israel, three Israeli soldiers were
snatched while patrolling the Israel-Lebanese frontier.
This week, after a year of cruel suspense and a hopeless quest for
some sign from the missing men, the bereaved families received
formal notice from the IDF's chief chaplain that the men were judged
dead in action, no longer missing without trace.
Three weeks after the soldiers were abducted last October, a
civilian, Elhanan Tannenboim, described in the media as a Mossad
agent, was abducted. DEBKAfile,whichreported at the time that
Mughniyeh masterminded the four abductions, added subsequently that
he had handed the three bodies and the live civilian over to Bin
Laden's people.

Proof positive of the links between the three terror masters led to
the targeted killing on February 13, 2001, of the Palestinian Col.
Masoud Ayad, a senior operation officer of Arafat's Force 17, in the
southern Gaza Strip. Five days later, after he was cut down in a
missile attack by Israeli choppers, DEBKAfileexplained why Ehud
Barak, then prime minister, had decided to target Ayad.
Late in May, 2000, four months before he launched his uprising,
Arafat sent Ayad to Beirut on a mission to Lebanon.

He was
instructed to organize the purchase from the Shiite extremist
Hizballah of a quantity of weapons and to recruit their experts in
suicide bombings and mortars as instructors for Palestinian
terrorists. Shortly after the intifada erupted, smuggled weapons
began to flow from Lebanon to Palestinian areas, and the imported
Hizballah instructors were soon at work in the Gaza Strip and later
on the West Bank, under the protection of the various Palestinian
Authority security services.
Col. Ayad was the linchpin of Arafat's Hizballah project, which
vastly enhanced the scope and deadliness of Palestinian terror. On
his trips to Lebanon, he made a beeline for the big Palestinian
refugee camp, Ein Hilweh near Tyre in South Lebanon, rather than the
Beirut headquarters of the Hizballah secretary general, Sheik Hassan
Nasrallah.

His reason was discovered later: One of Mughniyeh's two main Lebanon
cells operates secretly at Ein Hilweh; the second at Nahar al Badar
in the north.
Arafat Knew of Abductions
In the course of the desperate search for the bodies of its three
abducted soldiers, Israeli intelligence investigators came upon
intelligence evidence that Col. Ayad knew of Mughniyeh's plot to
kidnap the Israelis and was in fact an active accomplice. It was he
who carried Mughniyeh's agents' request to Palestinian intelligence
for a detailed account of the scene at the Shaaba Farms frontier
sector. Col. Ayad would never made this or any move without
reporting to Yasser Arafat, who must therefore have been aware of
Mughniyeh's plan, at least in outline.

Of late, Israel discovered - and passed the information to
Washington by foreign minister Peres - that segments of Hizballah's
front line on the Israeli border, especially in the Shaaba Farms
area, have passed to the direct control of Mughniyeh's men.
Just as the Palestinian Shiite terrorist never let the Hizballah
into the secret of the kidnapped Israeli soldiers, he does not
intend letting them know next time he strikes against Israel.
Part of the intelligence Peres conveyed to Washington relates to
Mughniyeh's plans to kidnap more Israeli soldiers and civilians,
kill some and hold some hostage in the same conditions as he held
the American and Western hostages in Beirut in the 1980s.
One of the British prime minister Tony Blair's tasks in Damascus
last week was to ask President Bashar Assad to rein in Mughniyeh's
men and especially along the Lebanese frontier. But Assad refused.

The Bush administration's decision to add three Palestinian groups,
the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the Hamas and the
Jihad Islami to the list of terrorist groups and impound their bank
accounts, is a forward step in the global assault on terrorism, but
the war against one of the three most dangerous terrorists in the
world, Imad Mughniye, is still ahead."

"U.S. Issues New "Most Wanted" List

The United States has issued a revised "Most Wanted" list, widening
the Bush administration's war on terrorism to included suspects
unrelated to Osama bin Ladin. Among the new names on the list was
that of Imad Mughniyeh, one of the founders of Hizballah.
"Terrorism has a face and today we expose it for the world to see,"
Bush told reporters during a visit to FBI headquarters. "We list
their names, we publicize their pictures, we rob them of their
secrecy."
Key al-Qaidah members head list of those wanted on terrorism charges
Not surprisingly, a number of the people on the new list are key
members of Osama bin Ladin's al-Qaida organization. Two of them are
bin Ladin's most trusted lieutenants, Ayman al-Zawahri and Muhammad
Atef.

Muhammad Atef, also called Abdulaziz abu Sitta or Abu Hoffs al-
Masri, is bin Ladin's top military commander and designated
successor. Atef, a former Egyptian police official, has been
identified by U.S. authorities as a key military strategist and
training director for bin Laden. Atef is related to Osama bin Ladin
by marriage, his daughter having married bin Ladin's son last year.
Ayman al-Zawahri is widely regarded as bin Ladin's second-in-
command. al-Zawahri, a doctor by training, is the former head of the
Egyptian al-Jihad terrorist group that merged in 1998 with bin
Laden's al-Qaida network. He is wanted in his native Egypt for his
role in the assassination of the late Egyptian president, Anwar al-
Sadat.

Also on the list are several al-Qaida members indicted in previous
attacks, such as the 1998 US Embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania.
Imad Mughniyeh sought by U.S.
What is new in the updated "Most Wanted" list is that among those
sought were three terrorists connected to Hizballah, including Imad
Mughniyeh, a founder of the group.
Before September 11, U.S. officials considered Mughniyeh responsible
for the deaths of more Americans around the world than anyone else.
As head of Hizballah's "foreign operations," Mughniyeh is believed
to have orchestrated the 1983 bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Beirut,
which killed 63, and the kidnapping of Western hostages in Beirut in
the mid-1980s. Two U.S. hostages-William Buckley, the CIA station
chief in Beirut, and Lt. Col. William Higgins, a Marine officer
serving with U.N. forces in Lebanon-were killed.
Mughniyeh is also suspected of directing the bombings of the Israeli
Embassy in 1992 and a Jewish social center in 1994 -- that together
killed 124 people. Last May, Argentina's Supreme Court issued a
warrant for his arrest. U.S. officials say Mughniyeh was also
involved in last October's kidnapping of three Israeli soldiers
along the Lebanese-Israeli border.
The epitome of the faceless terrorist, Mughniyeh appears in only a
handful of photographs; he is one of three hijackers pictured during
the 1985 hijacking of TWA flight 847. In the course of the
hijacking, U.S. Navy diver Robert Stethem was beaten and shot dead
by the hijackers in an attempt to pressure authorities to authorize
the refueling of the aircraft.
In the 15 years since the hijacking, Mughniyeh is believed to have
had two plastic surgeries, and Western intelligence services are
unsure what he looks like now. Nor is anyone sure of his exact
whereabouts. While some reports say that he currently resides in
Iran, others place him in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley. The United States
has reportedly asked Syria, Lebanon, and Iran for his extradition.
Two earlier attempts to capture Mugniyeh-in 1986, in France; and in
1995, in Saudi Arabia-ended in failure. In Saudi Arabia, he escaped
capture because Saudi Arabia refused to hold a plane on which he was
traveling, and may even have tipped off Mughniyeh to the snatch
operation.
U.S. prosecutors have obtained a still-sealed indictment against him
in the TWA hijacking. However, Mughniyeh's talent for hijacking was
used in at least two other lesser known cases, including the
hijacking of a Kuwait Airways airliner.
As early as 1986, there were reports that Hizballah agents were
practicing hijackings at a special airfield in Iran, and that some
were being trained as kamikaze pilots.
Mugniyeh linked to September 11 attacks
There are some who see something of Mughniyeh's influence on the
September 11 attacks in New York and Washington. What is clear is
that there is evidence that Osama bin Ladin met, probably more than
once, with Mugniyeh.
Ali Mohamed, one of those convicted in the 1998 U.S. embassy
bombings in Tanzania and Kenya, testified that bin Ladin pointed to
Hizballah's success in ousting Western forces from Lebanon as a
model to be imitated. The bombings of the U.S. embassies in East
Africa bear an operational resemblance to Hizballah suicide attacks
against the U.S. Embassy and Marine barracks in Beirut in 1983.
In court documents, Mohamed testified, "I arranged a meeting in
Sudan between Mughniyeh, Hizballah's chief, and bin Ladin. Hizballah
provided explosives training for al-Qaida and al-Jihad." A question
that many would like to see answered is whether Mughniyeh also lent
al-Qaida some of his considerable experience in hijacking
airliners."

We have a mixed bag of news about Fred Thompson.
We were very happy that Former Tennesse Senator Fred Thompson,
served on the advisory board of the legal defense fund for Libby,
and urged President Bush
to pardon him. If Fred Thompson enters the race for the Republican
nomination for President in 2008 he may be the odds on favorite to
win that nomination, at least
according to a variety of political observers, and could thus be
well on the way to becoming the next President of the United States.

It is refreshing to note that Fred Thompson, who played a prosecutor
on TV's "Law and Order" series, was not taken in by real life
prosecutor Patrick J. Fitzgerald.

"I am very happy for Scooter Libby," Thompson said. "I know that
this is a great relief to him, his wife and children. This will
allow a good American, who has done a lot for his country, to resume
his life."

Happily Fred Thompson is not the only person not to be taken in by
real life federal prosecutor Patrick J. Fitzgerald. See more on that

"Fred Thompson names anti-Israel ex-senator as campaign manager

Republican presidential hopeful Fred Thompson, who has yet to
officially announce his candidacy, has chosen as his new campaign
manager and ex-senator who is reviled by many within the party for
being soft on Islamic terrorism and an enemy of the Jewish state.

As of last week, Thompson's campaign is being run by former Michigan
senator Spencer Abraham, who is best known for his total opposition
to
almost any form of realistic border control between the US and
Mexico.

But Abraham, who is a Christian of Lebanese descent, has also carved
out an image of himself as a facilitator and supporter of anti-US and
anti-Israel Islamic fundamentalism.

During his one term in the Senate, Spencer was the driving force
behind a bill that granted more than $250 million in US taxpayers'
money to Hizballah-controlled southern Lebanon. Nearly every penny
went into the terror group's pocket.

His next move was to exhort American Muslim Association (AMA)
director
Agha Saeed as a positive influence on the US political scene. That
despite the fact that the AMA had recently sponsored events that
incited violence against the Jews and upheld Hizballah and Hamas as
models for Muslims everywhere.

In 2000, just months before his electoral defeat and the end of his
short legislative career, Spencer was one of only two senators who
refused to sign an open letter condemning escalating terrorist
attacks
by Yasser Arafat's PLO against Israeli civilians.

It was previously reported that Thompson was planning to visit Israel
in the coming months in order to gain more perspective on the Middle
East peace process. That visit, if it still happens, is expected to
take on a whole different tone with Spencer Abraham in charge of

SIX MONTHS LEFT TO LIVE. "IDF: Iran May Go Nuclear in 6 Months;

IDF, Iran will be able to produce nuclear weapons within six
months. NATO says Israel must `go it alone' according to Strategic
Affairs Minister Avigdor Lieberman. The IDF Military Intelligence
(MI) assessment was reported Tuesday to the Knesset and included a
concrete assessment determining that Iran could cross the
technological threshold required to produce nuclear weapons in the
next 6-12 months and possess an operational warhead by the middle
of 2009. The assessment is at odds with US estimates that put the
date between 2010 and 2013. Both agree, however, that military
strikes could set back the technology for years. IDF MI also is
of the opinion that sanctions against Iran have not weakened the
regime, because huge oil reserves still proivide all the money
necessary to neutralize any pressure created by the international
community. The assessment also revealed that Israel's withdrawals -
from Lebanon in 2000 and Gaza in 2005 - have added precedents
and solidified belief throughout the Middle East that armed

whose government portfolio was created specifically to deal with
the Iranian threat, met with NATO's Assistant Secretary-General

Franco Partini earlier this week. Lieberman reported that NATO's
senior officials said Israel should not assume that the
international community will stop Iran just to help
Israel. "Israel should prevent the threat, herself, and should not

and European and American troops are wallowing in the Iraqi
quagmire, which is something that is going to prevent the leaders

of Chamberlain are blowing in Europe," Lieberman told Army Radio,
referring to that leader's conciliatory policy toward the Nazis in
WWII. "When I hear from a respected prime minister like [Italian
Prime Minister] Romano Prodi that Israel should agree to a
peaceful Iranian nuclear program, it seems like something surreal.
The political situation is such that they are trying to turn this
into our problem alone." Lieberman said that although Europe or
the US could not be relied upon to attack Iran on Israel's behalf,
they would support Israel's actions. "If we start military
operations against Iran alone, then Europe and the US will support

Senator Joseph Lieberman has been publicly calling for US strikes
on Iran. He repeated the call last week, saying the Islamic
Republic "has declared war on the US" and is waging a "proxy war"

Senator Lieberman was nominated for President by the Democrats in

If Senator Lieberman did enter the Presidential primaries of his
Party, as the only Democrat running as a supporter of the
liberation of Iraq running in his Party, he could easily get a very
substantial portion of the votes from Democrats in his party who
support the liberation of Iraq. It should be noted that Senator
Lieberman was able to beat BOTH the Democrat AND the Republican
when he ran for re-election to the US Senate in Connecticut in 2006
as a hawk who fully supported the liberation of Iraq. So,if
anything, the vote for Senator Lieberman by Connecticut voters in
the general election in 2006 was A MANDATE FOR THE CONTINUATION OF
THE U.S. ROLE IN IRAQ AND FOR THE LIBERATION OF IRAQ. It also
represented a DRAMATIC DEFEAT for the cut and run surrender crowd
of Democrats who backed Senator Lieberman's opponent in the general
election. In case you missed it there was actually some good news
coming out of Washington recently: "Sept. 11 Security Bill to
Include Protections for Citizens Who Report Suspicious
Activity WASHINGTON - After nearly a week of intense, behind-
the-scenes wrangling, congressional negotiators late Tuesday
agreed to include in the pending Sept. 11 security bill sweeping
liability protections for citizens who report suspicious activity
they fear might be linked to terrorism. The provision is meant
to address the so-called "Flying Imams" case, wherein six Muslim
clerics sued passengers aboard a Northwest flight in March who
reported them to authorities, leading to their detention. The
clerics were cleared but their lawsuit, many lawmakers feared,
would discourage future vigilance among the flying public. The
Sept. 11 bill is a top Democratic priority and Republicans fought
hard to include the passenger immunity protection, creating common
cause with Connecticut Independent Joe Lieberman, chairman of the
conference committee knitting together the House and Senate bills
designed to implement unfulfilled security recommendations of the
Sept. 11 commission. The bill was expected to swiftly pass the
House and Senate and be signed into law by President Bush.
House Democrats, led by Mississippi's Bennie Thompson, sought
changes in the immunity language but ultimately were overwhelmed
by the Lieberman-GOP coalition on the conference committee. A
joint statement on the inclusion of the John Doe Protections
language for terrorism tipsters by House Republican Leader John
Boehner, R-Ohio, and ranking member of the Committee on Homeland
Security Peter King, R-N.Y., follows. "This is a huge win - a
hard-fought victory for House Republicans and, more importantly,
for the American people," King said. "In a post-9/11 reality,
vigilance is essential to security. Despite the Democratic
opposition to this important homeland security measure, I'm
thrilled to announce that common sense has prevailed and heroic
Americans who report suspicious activity will be protected from
frivolous lawsuits. The American people were heard and our country
is safer because of it." Added Boehner: "I'm pleased that
Democratic leaders finally decided to do the right thing and
agreed with Republicans that we should be encouraging Americans to
report potential terrorist activity to the proper
authorities." "This much-needed measure is critical in the effort
to confront the significant threats posed by Al Qaeda and other
terrorists and protect the American people. I want to thank Reps.
King and [New Mexico Republican Steve] Pearce for their leadership

Holocaust-deniers have been treated as pariahs. In Canada and many
European countries, Holocaust-denial is a criminal offense. In New
Zealand, Canterbury University recently issued an apology for
having accepting a master's thesis denying the Holocaust, while the
French minister of education revoked a doctoral degree that was
awarded to a Holocaust- denier by the University of Nantes. A
Polish university professor who denied the Holocaust was suspended
from his position. The Japanese publisher Bungei Shunju shut down
one of its magazines for printing an article denying the Holocaust.
International pressure compelled Croatian President Franjo Tudjman
to publicly retract statements in his book doubting that the
Holocaust had taken place. Austrian Freedom Party leader Jorg
Haider was ostracized by the international community for his
remarks praising members of the SS, as was French politician Jean
Marie Le Pen, for questioning the existence of the gas chambers
and belittling the significance of the Holocaust. A recent poll
found 64 percent of Americans believe world leaders should
likewise refuse to meet with Abbas. Yet some in the media have
treated Abbas with kid gloves, to say the least. The official BCC
News Profile of Abbas reports: "A highly intellectual man, Abbas
studied law in Egypt before doing a Ph.D. in Moscow. He is the
author of several books." The New York Times recently characterized
Abbas as "a lawyer and historian...He holds a doctorate in history

To return once more to the issue of which of the cut and run

the Achille Lauro hijacking so that Arafat could pretend to be
a "good cop" . It was in that hijacking that the murderous arab

Abbas would later be arrested in Baghdad after the liberation of
Iraq only to die sometime later of a heart attack. In the
current "good cop" vs. "bad cop" routine between Hillary Rodham
Clinton and Barack Obama Hillary, the person who kissed Arafat's
wife is pillorying Obama (and rightly so in this case) for saying
that he would meet with a variety of tyrants. But Hillary is no

Fatah man thrown off Gaza roof amid fresh Palestinian strife

GAZA CITY (AFP) - A member of the Palestinian Fatah movement was
thrown off the roof of an 18-storey building on Sunday amid a new
spate of deadly clashes between rival factions across Gaza, as
Israel vowed to continue its strikes against militants.
Mohammed Suwerki was kidnapped near the seafront in Gaza moments
before he was flung to his death from the roof of a building by
fighters loyal to the Islamist Hamas movement, which has been locked
for months in a power struggle with president Mahmud Abbas's Fatah
movement.

Three Hamas members were killed and some 20 people were injured in
sporadic gunbattles on Sunday between rival factions in the town of
Rafah and Gaza City, where militants erected dozens of roadblocks
and tension remained high.
The Palestinian internecine violence resumed last Thursday after
three weeks of relative calm following a May 19 ceasefire deal with
Egyptian mediators, drawing a line under a previous spate of clashes
between Fatah and Hamas militants in which more than 50 people died.
The factional fighting also came in the midst of a new Israeli air
and ground operation in the impoverished coastal strip that was
launched on May 16 in response to an increase in rocket fire from
the territory following a six-month truce.

The day after Palestinian militants launched the first cross-border
raid in nearly a year, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert vowed to
continue to hit Gaza.
"Our operations in Gaza will continue as long as the rocket fire and
the terror attacks continue," Olmert said at the weekly cabinet
meeting.
He did not say if Israeli military strikes in Gaza would increase
after militants breached a border fence using a jeep and attacked an
army post on the other side in an apparent bid to abduct an Israeli
soldier.
The post was unmanned at the time, but troops sent to the scene shot
one militant dead while three others made it back inside Gaza.
The attack near the Kissufim crossing was carried out jointly by the
radical Islamic Jihad and Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, a group loosely
linked to president Mahmud Abbas's Fatah party.

It was the first cross-border raid since a June 25, 2006 operation
in which militants tunneled out of Gaza and attacked an army post,
killing two soldiers and seizing a third, Corporal Gilad Shalit, who
remains in captivity.
Defence Minister Amir Peretz said the latest raid was also aimed at
capturing a soldier. Olmert called it an attempt to "further
complicate the situation."

"The central objective of the terrorist organisations was to hit
Israel, to carry out a kidnapping and in this way to put us into
difficulties," Peretz told public radio.
Olmert and the Palestinian journalists' union condemned the use of a
white jeep allegedly displaying press insignia, photos of which were
published in Israeli dailies, but the groups denied the charge.
"Yesterday terrorists used a car with TV insignia in order to
confuse the soldiers and take advantage of our special sensitivity
as a democratic country to allow the media to work in these
sensitive areas," Olmert said.
In a statement in Gaza, the Palestinian journalists' union
said: "Using a car with press insignia puts in danger journalists'
lives and gives an excuse to occupation forces to target and kill
journalists."

But a spokesman for Islamic Jihad's armed wing, the Al-Quds
Brigades, repeated the group's assertion that the jeep had been

threw him off. Mohammed Sweirki, 25, from the Presidential Guard of

That set off skirmishes through the city, including gun battles and
shelling. Fatah militants surrounded the house of a Hamas mosque
preacher and fired rocket-propelled grenades at the four-story
building.

They then entered, shooting at preacher Mohammed al-Rifati, 40, and
taking him away. Later, his body was brought to a hospital. Hamas
pledged revenge.
Just before midnight, a Hamas activist was thrown off the 12th floor
of a building and killed, security officials said. Four other Hamas
men in the building were shot and wounded, bringing the day's toll
to three dead and 36 wounded, medical officials said. Also, a Hamas
militant wounded on Friday died Sunday.

soldiers and capturing a third.
The soldier's capture has been a major obstacle to political
progress in the year that has passed. Israel all but refuses to
discuss peace efforts before he is released, and Abbas has been
shown powerless to free the soldier despite his repeated
declarations that his release is at hand.

Indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas over a prisoner

declared today that a Palestinian Authority official in Greece sent
him to bring the ship through the Red Sea to PA-controlled shores.
On January 3, the Israeli Navy seized control over the Karine A ship
that was sailing in international waters on its way to the Suez
Canal. The shipment included both 122 mm. and 107 mm. Katyusha
rockets, which have ranges of 20 and 8 kilometers respectively. It
also contained 80 mm. and 120 mm. mortar shells, various types of
anti-tank missiles, anti-tank mines, sniper rifles, Kalashnikov
rifles and ammunition.

Seizing of the Palestinian weapons ship Karine A - Jan 4- 2002

A ship carrying weapons intended for the Palestinian Authority was
captured in the Red Sea by Israel's Navy and Air Force. The boat's
cargo included 50 tons of advanced weaponry including Katyusha
rockets, rifles, mortar shells, mines and a variety of anti-tank
missiles. Senior figures in the Palestinian Authority were involved
in the smuggling.

On January 3rd, the Israeli Navy seized control over the Karine A
ship that was sailing in international waters on its way to the Suez
Canal.
The shipment included both 122 mm. and 107 mm. Katyusha rockets,
which have ranges of 20 and 8 kilometers respectively. It also
contained 80 mm. and 120 mm. mortar shells, various types of anti-
tank missiles, anti-tank mines, sniper rifles, Kalashnikov rifles
and ammunition. From Gaza, the 122 mm. Katyushas could have
threatened Ashkelon and other coastal cities; while from the West
Bank, Ben-Gurion International Airport and several major Israeli
cities would have been within their range. The shipment also
included rubber boats and diving equipment, which would have
facilitated seaborne attacks from Gaza against coastal cities.
Preliminary investigation of the crew members has revealed so far
that the commanding officer of the ship is Colonel Omar Akawi. The
ship was purchased by the Palestinian Authority, loaded with weapons
by the Iranians and the Hizbullah, manned by Palestinian Authority
personnel, with the aim of transfering the weapons it carried to the
Palestinian Naval Police near the Gaza beaches.
Since October 2000, Adel Mughrabi, a major buyer in the Palestinian
weapons purchasing system (with the assistance of the Palestinian
Naval Police Commander Juma'a Ghali and his executive Fathi Ghazem),
has been in contact with the Iranians and Hizbullah regarding a vast
weapons smuggling operation for the use of the Palestinian
Authority. This operation included the testing and purchase of
ships, forming a sailing crew and appointing a commander for the
team, as well as making arrangements as to how the weapons would be
stored, loaded onto the vessels, and its journey until delivery to
the Palestinian Authority.
Preliminary investigation of the team members arrested revealed that
the Karine A ship was purchased by Adel Mughrabi in Lebanon, sailed
to Sudan where it was loaded with regular cargo. The crew was then
switched with the team members and in November 2001 sailed to
Hodeida port in Yemen.
In December 2001 the ship sailed according to detailed instructions
from Adel Mughrabi to the beaches of Iran near Qeshm Island. There a
ferry approached it, most likely arriving from Iran, from which the
weapons stored in 80 large wooden crates were transferred and loaded
onto the ship. These weapons were stored in special waterproof
containers produced only in Iran, which are floatable and are set
with a special configurable system that determines how deep they are
submerged, were prepared by Hizbullah personnel for smuggling to the
Palestinian Authority. Included in the ferry team which transferred
the weapons crates to the ship was also a Lebanese trainer, a
Hizbullah operative who trained a diver from the ship's crew in
configuring the floatation devices in Lebanon. The trainer was
present for yet another refreshing training session prior to the
sailing.

After completing the loading process of the weapons onto the ship,
the ship had to divert to Hodeida port in Yemen due to technical
problems. After crossing the canal, the ship was supposed to meet
with three smaller ships that were purchased in advance and to
unload the weapons onto them. According to the plan, the smaller
ships were to leave the weapons near El Arish in Gaza, where the
weapons were to be taken by the commander of the Palestinian Naval
Police Juma'a Ghali and his executive Fathi Ghazem."

that other Arab-Americans currently stand accused of aiding and
abetting terrorist attacks against our country.... Americans
are tolerant and open-minded and non-judgmental. Americans are
good, fair and understanding. They are anything but quick to
generalize and stereotype even when doing so would clearly be in
their best interest. Again, here's my own experience as an
Arab-American. I travel frequently. Though I am an Arab-American
male, though I have an Arab face and an Arab name, I never get a
second look when I go through security. Meanwhile, I see young
mothers with little babies struggling to make it through extra
security. I see little old grandmothers facing the indignities of
extra checks.

And all the while, the Muslim-American lobbies and the Arab-
American anti-discrimination groups are denouncing this country for
being racist and for profiling. It's just not true.Worse yet, there
is every common-sense reason for it to be so. The threat of
terrorism in the United States does come largely, if not
exclusively, from Arabs and from Muslims. We ignore that fact at
our own peril. When I fly to the Middle East, I often fly El Al.
In fact, it is my preferred carrier. Why? Because it has great
security. I know, because of my name and my Arabic ancestry, I'm
going to have my bags searched more scrupulously than the average
American. Do I mind? Absolutely not. In fact, I am grateful.
Because I know these security people are not only protecting the
other passengers, they are protecting me. It only makes sense to do
this kind of profiling especially when we are in a war where our
very way of life is at stake. That's what I think as an Arab-
American, Mr. Obama. You see, not all Arab-Americans think alike.
Some of us think like Americans first and Arabs second. Maybe you
should give it some thought...."

WASHINGTON -- The United States has once again opened up an arms
bazaar in the Mideast.Middle East analysts worry that the proposed
arms sales threaten to erode the "qualitative edge" the Israeli
military enjoys over its neighbors.

billion worth of state-of-the-art fighter planes, tanks and Patriot
missiles to Egypt, as well as sophisticated air-to-air missiles to

Although the United States has sold Egypt and other Arab nations a
wide range of weaponry in the past -- and annually earmarks some
$1.2 billion in military aid to Egypt -- the peddling of the most
sophisticated weapons in the U.S. arsenal has prompted criticism
from defense hawks.
"It puts Israel in greater and greater jeopardy," Tom Neumann,
executive director of the Jewish Institute for National Security
Affairs, said of the proposed sale to Egypt.
"Essentially it just notches up their arsenal to a higher
technological level. Eventually it's going to be so immense and so
cumbersome that it's going to precipitate a war in the Middle
East."analysts believe that transferring advanced weapons systems to
Egypt may not ultimately be in Israel's interests.

"Who does Egypt need weapons to defend themselves against?" said
Mitchell Bard, a foreign policy analyst.
"They have no legitimate defensive need, so the arms are only likely
to be used offensively" against Israel, he said, adding that the
U.S. taxpayer will foot the bill."

Saudi Arabia by President Hillary Rodham Clinton, or President
Barack Hussein Obama, or President John Edwards (or is it Jon
Edwards?).

We know that President Bill Clinton did not pardon Jonathan Pollard.
Does anyone think that President Hillary Rodham Clinton or President
Barack Hussein Obama or President Edwards, whatever his first name
turns out to be, would pardon Jonathan Pollard?

NEW YORK (UPI) - Former president Bill Clinton's brother-in-law Tony
Rodham helped obtain a presidential pardon for a Tennessee couple
last March over the objections of the Justice Department, the New
York Times reported Thursday.
In an interview with the Times, Rodham acknowledged that he had
asked the president to pardon Edgar Allen Gregory Jr. and his wife,
Vonna Jo. The Gregorys were convicted of bank fraud in 1982, accused
of using the assets of a bank they owned to give loans to friends.
"I told him about Ed Gregory," Rodham said. "I didn't push. I told
the president about Ed Gregory and that he had applied for a pardon.
He's what the pardon process is all about."
The Gregorys were placed on probation. The pardons freed them of the
consequences of felony convictions. Rodham said he received no
payment.
Contributors to Hillary Clinton
Clinton pardoned the Gregorys on March 15, 2000. The Gregorys are
major campaign contributors to Democrats and Republicans, and they
contributed to the Senate campaign of Hillary Clinton, Tony Rodham's
sister.
Julia Payne, a spokeswoman for the former president, told the
newspaper that the pardons were approved on the merits.
"The president has said many, many people advocated pardons directly
to him. But the president determines to grant or deny a pardon based
on the merits," she said.
Clinton's late flurry of pardons on Jan. 20 included two for which
Hugh Rodham, the brother of Hillary and Tony Rodham, was paid
$400,000 for his work on two clemency applications, which he
returned after the pardon scandal grew and his actions became known.
Wednesday, the Clinton presidential library agreed to allow
congressional investigators examining the last-minute pardon of
fugitive financier Marc Rich to search its donor records. A
statement from the House Government Reform Committee said
investigators would examine the donor list Friday to look for any
possible link between donations and the pardon.
Because of the compromise, a scheduled appearance by library
president Skip Rutherford at a committee hearing Thursday has been
canceled, according to CNN.
The committee is investigating allegations of influence peddling in
the flurry of pardons issued by Bill Clinton in the dying moments of
his administration....."

"In September 1998, during the Middle East Peace Talks at the Wye
Plantation in
Maryland, George Tenet, as director of the CIA, told then President
Clinton that
he would resign if Clinton agreed to release Jonathan Pollard from
Federal
Prison, where Pollard was (is) serving a life sentence for spying on
behalf of
Israel. This was after Clinton personally guaranteed Pollard's
release to then
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

One wonders, was there (and is there) "enough evidence" in the
Pollard case to
merit such threats from Tenet? Was (and is) the Pollard case another
situation
that no one had "obtained the documents" and proof about Pollard's
activities
before making public statements?

Had everyone thoroughly checked the facts---

Pollard made 11 "drops" and all the material fit into a small
briefcase - not
enough material to fill a large moving van, as was being claimed.

Pollard - we now know - never had the security clearance which would
have been
required to enter the file room and the security safe to obtain the
code books
he supposedly took or much of the intelligence information he
supposedly
obtained.

The damage that Pollard supposedly caused was, in truth, caused by
Aldrich Ames,
a senior CIA official and Pollard's superior, and by Robert Hanssen,
a senior
FBI official. (In fact, once these two spies were caught and the
damaged they
caused realized, why didn't the proper authorities revisit the
Pollard case and
admit that Pollard was indicted and convicted for a crime he did not
commit?)

Pollard never had a trial. At the request of the United States
government,
Pollard entered into a plea agreement and cooperated fully.
Nevertheless,
Pollard received a life sentence and a recommendation that he never
be paroled -
in complete violation of the plea agreement. The Pollard case, is a
case of
gross injustices-including a grossly disproportionate sentence, use
of secret
evidence, a false charge of treason, ineffective assistance of
counsel, a lack
of due process, serious government misconduct, etc. Years after his
sentencing,
Pollard filed a habeas corpus challenge to the sentence. In a
dissenting
opinion, Court of Appeals Judge Stephen Williams called the case "a
fundamental
miscarriage of justice," and wrote that he would have ordered that
Pollard's
sentence be vacated.

The average prison term for "spying for a friendly country with no
intent to
harm the United States" normally carries a prison sentence of 2 - 4
years.
Pollard is now serving his18th year of a life sentence.
It is due time for all justice-seeking individuals to publicly
challenge George
Tenet and the CIA - and the entire intelligence community - on the
Pollard case.
What proof was (and is) there to validate the charges against
Pollard. What
developments have (and are) been ignored. We must raise our voices
in protest.
We must insist on the evidence to back up their charges. We must
demand that
Pollard finally receive the due process he has been denied for so
long.

Basically the Pollard case in our view was about the American
attempt to
cover-up the fact that the U.S. was arming Israel's hostile arab

mechanism

chemical complex of I.G. Farben was the largest chemical

enterprise in the world, with extraordinary political and economic

super-giant chemical enterprise out of six already giant German

of New Jersey, DuPont, Alcoa, Dow Chemical, and others in the United

intense research, and vast internationalaffiliations, Germany's
prosecution of the war would have been unthinkable and impossible;
Farben not only directed its energies toward arming Germany, but
concentrated on weakening her intended victims, and this
double-barreled attempt to expand the German industrial potential for
war and to restrict that of the rest of the world was not conceived
and executed "in the normal course of business." The proof is
overwhelming that I. G. Farben officials had full prior knowledge of
Germany's plan for world conquest and of each specific aggressive act
later undertaken.- Directors of Farben firms (i.e., the "I. G. Farben
officials" referred to in the investigation) included not only
Germans
but also prominent American financiers. This 1945 U.S. War Department
report concluded that I.G.'s assignment from Hitler in the prewar
period was to make Germany self-sufficient in rubber, gasoline,
lubricating oils, magnesium, fibers, tanning agents, fats, and
explosives. To fulfill this critical assignment, vast sums were spent
by I.G. on processes to extract these war materials from indigenous
German raw materials - in particular the plentiful German coal
resources. Where these processes could not be developed in Germany
,they were acquired from abroad under cartel arrangements. For
example, the process for iso-octane, essential for aviation fuels,
was
obtained from the United States, in fact entirely [from] the
Americans
and has become known to us in detail in its separate stages through
our agreements with them [Standard Oil of New Jersey] and is being
used very extensively by us.- The process for manufacturing
tetra-ethyl lead essential for aviation gasoline, was obtained by I.
G. Farben from the United States, and in 1939 I.G. was sold $20
million of high-grade aviation gasoline by Standard Oil of New
Jersey.
Even before Germany manufactured tetra-ethyl lead by the American
process it was able to "borrow" 500 tons from the Ethyl Corporation.
This loan of vital tetra-ethyl lead was not repaid and I.G. forfeited
the $1 million security. Further, I.G. purchased large stocks of
magnesium from Dow Chemical for incendiary bombs and stockpiled
explosives, stabilizers, phosphorus, and cyanides from the outside
world.

In 1939, out of 43 major products manufactured by I.G., 28
were
of "primary concern" to the German armed forces. Farben's ultimate
control of the German war economy, acquired during the 1920s and
1930s
with Wall Street assistance, can best be assessed by examining the
percentage of German war material output produced by Farben plants in
1945. Farben at that time produced 100 percent of German synthetic
rubber, 95 percent of German poison gas (including all the Zyklon B
gas used in the concentration camps), 90 percent of German plastics,
88 percent of German magnesium, 84 percent of German explosives, 70
percent of German gunpowder, 46 percent of German high octane
(aviation) gasoline, and 33 percent of German synthetic gasoline-
There erenumerous Farben arrangements with American firms, including
cartel marketing arrangements, patent agreements, and technical
exchanges as exemplified in the Standard Oil-Ethyl technology
transfers mentioned above.

These arrangements were used by I.G. to
advance Nazi policy abroad, to collect strategic information, and to
consolidate a world-wide chemical cartel. One of the more horrifying
aspects of I.G. Farben's cartel was the invention, production, and
distribution of the Zyklon B gas, used in Nazi concentration camps.
Zyklon B was pure Prussic acid, a lethal poison produced by I.G.
Farben Leverkusen and sold from the Bayer sales office through
Degesch, an independent license holder. Sales of Zyklon B amounted to
almost three-quarters of Degesch business; enough gas to kill 200
million humans was produced and sold by I.G. Farben. The Kilgore
Committee report of 1942 makes it clear that the I.G.Farben directors
had precise knowledge of the Nazi concentration camps and the use of
I.G. chemicals. This prior knowledge becomes significant when we
later
consider the role of the American directors in I.G.'s American
subsidiary. The 1945 interrogation of I.G. Farben director yon
Schnitzler reads:
Q. What did you do when they told you that I.G. chemicals was [sic]
being used to kill, to murder
people held in concentration camps?
A. I was horrified.
Q. Did you do anything about it?
A. I kept it for me [to myself] because it was too terrible .... I
asked Muller-Cunradi is it known to you and Ambros and other
directors
in Auschwitz that the gases and chemicals are being used to murder
people.
Q. What did he say?
A. Yes: it is known to all I.G. directors in Auschwitz.
There was no attempt by I.G. Farben to halt production of the gases -
General Dyestuff Corporation was established as the exclusive selling
agent for products manufactured by Gasselli Dyestuff (renamed General
Aniline Works, Inc., in 1929) and imported from Germany. The stock of
General Aniline Works was transferred in 1929 to American I.G.
Chemical Corporation and later in 1939 to General Aniline & Film
Corporation, into which American I.G. and General Aniline Works were
merged. American I.G. and its successor, General Aniline & Film, is
the unit through which control of I.G.'s enterprises in the U.S. was
maintained. -the board of American I.G. had three directors from the
Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the most influential of the various
Federal Reserve Banks. American I.G. also had interlocks with
Standard Oil of New Jersey, Ford Motor Company, Bank of Manhattan
(later to
become the Chase Manhattan), and A.E.G. (German General

Is Osama bin Laden, on top of his other sins, a racial bigot?

That question crossed my mind as I was reading a translation of the
amateur video of bin Laden that was made in November in
Kandahar and released by the Bush administration.
At one point, according to translators for the Bush administration
and
the Washington Post, bin Laden praises the two young Saudi
brothers involved in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks like this:
"Killing oneself for the sake of God was better than the books and
pamphlets. They [the brothers] made the whole world listen to
them whether Arab or non-Arab or slaves [using a derogatory term for
blacks] or Chinese. Better than millions of books, tapes or
booklets."
The possibility that bin Laden refers to blacks with a derogatory
word
for slaves caught my eye, since he has long been suspected
of supporting and even participating in the slave trafficking that
still goes on in the Middle East, despite the efforts of modernists
to
wipe it out.
In 1999, a report in the London Sunday Telegraph accused him of
paying
Ugandan rebels in rifles for every African child they
supplied to work in the marijuana fields that fund Al Qaeda.
The child of a wealthy Saudi construction family, bin Laden also is
known to have lived in Sudan for several years, building roads
and other infrastructure and ingratiating himself with Sudan's
Taliban-like leaders.
For years, American human-rights organizations have protested the
trafficking of black Christians and other non-Muslims captured
by government troops in the southern Sudan during that country's long
civil war.
"If he was in Sudan for five years, he [bin Laden] learned slurs like
'abid' well because that's the word Sudanese elites tend to use

Indeed, other experts told me that "abid" or "abd" (Arabic spellings
do not translate uniformly to the English alphabet) is about as
offensive as you can be in some contexts, depending on how it is
used.
But George Michael, of Diplomatic Language Services, an Egyptian who
helped translate the tape for the Bush administration, said
the word he heard was not "abid" but "zingi" or "zinge," which he
views as more offensives than "abd."
"Bin Laden is well-educated," said Michael, who practiced pharmacy in
Saudi Arabia. "A well-educated person would not use that
word in public."
This touched off a dispute among other experts I contacted.
Walid Phares, a Florida Atlantic University professor of Middle East
studies, said he distinctly heard the word "abid" on the
videotape, although he conceded that the government's playback
machines undoubtedly were more clear than his.
Nevertheless, he thought the word "abid" was much worse than "zingi,"
a word that generally refers to sub-Saharan Africans, slave or free.
