He sounded like a Canadian snooker player - and a good one at that -
until the snooker authorities banned Beta Blocker and also stopped Bill
Werbenuik drinking beer while he played.
The difference was, that Steve Davis, and that Welsh chap whose name I
can't remember, and others, were actually cheating by taking the drugs
while perfectly fit, just to steady their hands, while Werbenuik had a
genuine illness that made his hands unsteady and draknk beer as a
medicine. But naturally, our nice honourable Beta Blocker -taking
snooker players all said "What about him with his beer?" at the enquiry
so the board had to ban alcohol as well. He was on a Beta Blocker
himself by then but it was solely to stop the palpitations he was
suffering from his excessive consumption of alcohol.
I had a pair of Brogue shoes once. I believe Mae Questel and Red Norvo
used to wear them as well.
