Could someone please comment on a page I have been changing. The original
page is at http://www.shepherdboats.com/Registration/registration.htm and
was taking too long for people with slow modems to load. The revised pages
are shown at http://www.shepherdboats.com/registration/Directory_home.htm

I am just learning to use Photoshop so the gif text files (Titles) may need
some work

I'd like to pass on a couple of suggestions. Maybe it's just my poor
old eyes, but I find the bright blue link text extraordinarily
difficult to read in the mustard colored box below the boats. Perhaps
you could experiment with other colors for link text, or lighten the
background color. It would also improve readability if you put the
link on just the main words instead of the whole sentence. So instead
of:

<A HREF="foo1.html">If you know of someone without internet access who
has a Shepherd Boat and would like their boat information included
please let me know</A>

You might write:

If you know of someone without internet access who has a Shepherd Boat

You might write:

If you have a SHepherd Boat, <A HREF="foo2.html">fill in your boat
information here.</A>

Finally, I'd suggest you resize the 4 boats to about 90% of their
current size. THe page is just a wee bit too wide for a 800 x 600
screen, and is popping horizontal scrollbars at that width.

Dave - you definitely took the right approach, to split up the pages in
subcategories.
If you don't mind, I give my opinions on some of the things, which I notice
when looking at your site.

The use of colors in the tables in my opinions is quite nice and plays well
with the background of your site. The only color(s) which don't work, is 1)
the blue-purple header background of your tables and the brown background
where it says "Please click here to fill in your...."
Compared to the nice pastell colour of your background and the rest of the
table they do not fit it. Experiment around.

You are right, the titles could need some "help" ;-)
If you are creating the transparent .gif file, be sure to have the same
background color as on your web site (because of your drop shadow - in this
case - and for anti-aliasing in general)
Also, you might use another font-color than black for the title...

Then there is one "major" problem. On screen resolution 1024 x 768 I get
horizontal scroll bars - a big "Don't"

Well but the problem is obviously that you have too many columns in your
table. One solution would be to leave the "detailed information" and make a
link like "click for details" or something. Then this could bring the surfer
to the individual profile of the product. Of course it would be a pain, if
you don't use any database solution and would create each page individually.
You might want to have a look into PHP and MySQL (www.php.net ,
www.mysql.com)

Thank you very much for your suggestions Jim and Saman

I made a few changes to the site and I think I have improved the colours
somewhat. Until I can learn to use a database for my site I will have to
keep the tables wide. I also think I need to start brushing up on
Photoshop so I can create nicer headings.
