Horses poop in the barn

We built a barn for our horses. Rather than make individual stalls, we left the stall area open like a loafing shed. The horses love it and spend a lot of time in the barn. Recently one of our horses has been really sick. I have him on high quality feed and hay but he just keeps losing weight. He is also really stiff on his hind end and has a hard time just moving around. We have done blood tests and taken him to 3 vets and no one can figure out what is going on.
