Established in 2003, the Fondazione is the only recognised
Not-for-Profit horse rescue organisation in Italy. Its work has 2
main goals: (1) to help with the physical and psychological recovery
of horses that have been mistreated, abused, neglected and/or
abandoned - to give these horses a happier and healthier life, and (2)
to promote and improve understanding horses and their needs so as to
prevent horses experiencing ill-treatment.
Volunteers of the Fondazione are responsible for the day-to-day care
of the horses (and currently 2 other equines) and to help with the
rehabilitation of those suffering from pysical injuries and/or
psychological trauma as a consequence of their past circumstances.
This involves commitment, patience, compassion and kindness. At times
it also involves hard work.
In selecting Volunteers, the Fondazione looks for people with a
sincere love for these beautiful creatures, experience in equine care,
maturity, self-sufficiency, good judgment and an open mind. An
interest in the practice of Natural Horsemanship would be very
welcome. A drivers licence is essential.
Work as a volunteer is not paid, however it includes the provision of
good accommodation close to the horses. Volunteers are usually also
offered the opportunity to undertake some paid work for the farm on
which the horses are kept and in the wine-making operations also
undertaken on the farm. Accommodation is usually shared with other
Volunteers and is located within walking distance to the lovely Tuscan
town of Montaione.
The Fondazione is always in need of suitable people to help with the
horses in its care. However it would particularly like to hear from
those who may be available over this Summer. For the Fondazione, the
proper care and rehabilitation of the horses requires knowing each of
them as individuals. As such, its ideal Volunteers are able to commit
to the work for a period of at least 3 months. Naturally those able
to offer a shorter period are not immediately ruled out!
