Favourite song from a horror film?

Most horror film soundtracks these days seem to be largely comprised of
songs from either rock bands or various musical artists.

My fave (as those who have heard Bod's Alt.Horror radio will confirm) is Rob
Zombies "Living Dead Girl", which featured in "Bride of Chucky".

So then, does anybody else have a favourite theme song, or do you prefer
orchestral soundtracks?

I like anything from Goblin. I also rather like the soundtracks for the
Blade movies.

Can't think of a song, but my favorite music would be the "Suspiria"
soundtrack, no contest.

It's an instrumental, but I'd have to go with Bill Wyman's "The
Valley," featured in PHENOMENA.

My favourite piece also featured in AHR - the theme from NEKROMANTIK. I'm
also very partial to the entire soundtrack of TENEBRAE.

Theme songs off the top of my head :

The Ramones - Pet Semetary
The Dickies - Killer Klowns From Outer Space

(Coincidently, both from incorrectly spelt film titles)

There's loads of great music featured in films (like most of the music in
Hideaway & Blair Witch 2 for instance).

Of course ! - I forgot about that. It's normally as far as I get before
switching the film off.

But I have to admit, Punk and industrial generally comes before Goth in my
music taste.

It's definitely hard to narrow down a top choice, but one of my all-time
fave soundtracks is from "Return of the Living Dead". As an unabashed fan
of old school punk music - this soundtrack is outstanding. My two fave
tracks would have to be "Surfin' Dead" by The Cramps and "Burn the Flames"
by Roky Erickson.

Depends on when you went to see them, prior to "Blow up your Video" I
thought they were pretty damn good. After I saw them during their "Razor's
Edge" tour in 91 when they headlined the Donnington Rock Festival I became
distictly un-impressed.

Interesting side note, that year they were totally upstaged by Metallica who
were supporting. Another group who have since gone shite.

Great use of songs in the new DAWN OF THE DEAD. Somebody has already

I agree QUEEN OF THE DAMNED is possibly the worst film of that year, or
at least in the top three.

The music though was very good. I'm not sure how involved he got, but I
believe a lot of the music in the film was actually scored by Jonathan
Davis of Korn.

Also, there's the songs listed on the CD soundtrack which I happen to
have right here. The track listing, via a CDNow cut and paste job:

1. Not Meant For Me - Wayne Static of Static-X
2. Forsaken - David Draiman of Disturbed
3. System - Chester Bennington of Linkin Park
4. Change - Deftones
5. Redeemer - Marilyn Manson
6. Dead Cell - Papa Roach
7. Penetrate - Godhead ListenMusic
8. Slept So Long - Jay Gordon of Orgy
9. Down With The Sickness - Disturbed
10. Cold-Static - X
11. Headstrong - Earshot
12. Body Crumbles - Dry Cell
13. Excess - Tricky
14. Before I'm Dead - Kidney Thieves (Incidentally, really dig this
band)

I think you mean "Red Right Hand" by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, one of
my favorite artists. The song is being used quite a bit in horror
actually, probably the best use came in TELL ME SOMETHING.

Slightly off-topic, but speaking of Willow, America's BtVS television
series made the best use of existing rock songs, IMO... from Sarah
McLachlan to Aimee Mann. I have the soundtrack CD of songs from the
series & it totally kicks ass.

Yeah, Britt Ekland's nude pagan song & dance segment in this film is
strangely haunting & *memorable* for some reason. Really, and not
just 'cuz she's ballicky bare-ass. It really is a nice song she
sings, so well done that it supresses the desire to giggle. "Dawn Of
The Dead" (2004) had some wicked songs in it.

I love "Fool for a blonde" in TCM and for some reason, that
outrageously catchy 70's disco track in "Blue Sunshine"!

Yeah, the music in the Wicker Man is beautiful. I also love The Wicker Man,
as it features a devoted Christian as the main character. It's not often
that the protagonist of a horror film is someone with such high moral fiber.

I agree, portraying a devout Christian as someone with high moral fiber

It does indeed - it's featured when Lemmy himself is ferrying the two male
characters across a river - it was 'The Ace of Spades' (what else?!) The
other songs on the soundtrack were the great 'Stigmata' by Ministry, 'Order
of Death' by Public Image Ltd and 'Cold Metal' and 'Bad Life' by Iggy Pop.
Ones I love, apart from the obligatory Goblin stuff:

*Chu Ishikawa's scores for Shinya Tsukamoto's films, especially TETSUO II
and GEMINI
*Pino Donaggio's score for DON'T LOOK NOW
*Angelo Badalamenti's scores for David Lynch's films

And then there's all the great non-horror stuff for Leone's films (Ennio
Morricone), Herzog's films (Popol Vuh), Abel Ferrara's films (Schoolly D),
etc, etc.

Which reminds me: the NIN title music for the opening credits for
"Se7en" (1995) is awesome, and would certainly quality as one of my
favorite songs from a horror movie. Don't know if it was scored
specifically for the film or pieced together from existing Nine Inch
Nails material (it seems to sample Reznor's "Closer" for example) but
I thought it's one of the best marriages of a brilliant, dark visual
montage & appropriate music. Only DOTD 2004 equals it in
effectiveness for me in use of visual & sound in an opening credit.

NIN's "Piggy" was used to good effect in the pilot episode of "Millenium".
I believe "head like a hole" was also used in the same episode along with
some White Zombie.

Look, I've said before. God didn't put us on this earth to swear. Please
consider others.
