Finally seen the 2007 remake of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" AKA "The
Invasion".

All I'll say is it was a damn good job that both James Bond and Felix
Lighter were on hand to save the day!

I've had more entertaining poops.

How can you screw up that story? The 3 previous versions were all good
(first and second better than third), but this thing just kept doing
things wrong and became some sort of Hollywood zombie movie with car
chases and crap. I saw it in a cinema in Las Vegas while I was on
vacation... and everyone else walked out! I was the only one strong
enough to stay through until the end.

The dumbest things of all is that NONE of the film versions are faithful to
the book. Siegal's version kind of comes close. With so many attempts to
film the same story one would think eventually someone would actually use
the source material rather than just the idea.

I've been meaning to see this, since I love OliverHirschbiegel's DAS

Nicole Kidman!

People are timid, and dumb, so they're more likely to go to a movie if the
material is something they've already been sold.

No, it was just unoriginal, dull and predictable. No wonder you liked it.

Actually, it was none of those. It was well-made.

Maybe you just find it "hip" to knock everything,eh?

It had high production values and decent acting. The rest was nothing I had
never seen before. And I knew the "twist" as soon as she mentioned no one
had delivered mail. And then they beat you over the head with "clues" for
the next hour and a half. It was like being spoon fed.

>

Yes, yes. It doesn't even matter if I like something everyone else hates.
Everything I do is "hip".

Hell, I'm a middle aged mom and cub scout leader. How much more "hip" could
I possibly be?

Predictable? Yes, it was, despite the lengthy red herring in there that
led us to believe it was actually an alternate history story or something
instead. However, we also all know how Shakespeare's plays end and, for that
matter, how Ken Burns's documentary "The Civil War" ends. That has nothing to
do with how much one can appreciate the artistry, however, for they're not
works that are all that dependent on surprise (unlike, say, a fair number of
M. Night Shyamalan films).
You can make a pretty decent case for "unoriginal", too. I didn't mind that
aspect, either. How much is there to say about ghosts that hasn't already been
said, anyway?

You're one of those sissies who waited for it to come out on homevideo,
aren't you? _The Others_ is one of those movies that, like so many ghost
stories, is all about atmosphere. Hats off -- way off -- to Alejandro
Amenabar and his cameraman Javier Aguirresarobe; whatever you might say about
the conventions of this kind of story, movies are a visual medium, and _The
Others_ looks GREAT. I don't know what reducing it to a bunch of dots on a
much smaller screen did to it, but whatever it was I am confident it wasn't
good.

It may have been deliberately paced, but there are some pictures that just
wouldn't work any other way; indeed, I wouldn't *want* _The Others_ or _Eyes
Wide Shut_ to move any faster, 'cause that wouldn't give you enough time to
masticate the great cinematography, or all the other neat stuff those movies
give you.
But all that television watching has no doubt made your attention span too
short to appreciate something so grown up.

I only noticed the "spoon-feeding" the second time
through,myself...And I'm the same one who hates M. Night Shyamalan for
"spoon-feeding". His films can be predicted in the first 10-15
minutes. Admittedly, the Truman Capote film THE INNOCENTS did use the
plot previously...

You could always achieve hipsterdom by being part of the cult of
Martha Stewart... given that you're a horror-fan, I assume you are
smarter than that though!!!

Not really on both accounts - THE INNOCENTS is not a Truman Capote film he
only wrote some of the dialogue and THE TURN OF THE SCREW is not the same
plot as used in the Kidman film.

He wrote most of the dialogue...Considering he wrote the
screenplay...lol

Not EXACTLY same plot. Came damn close..

I have, and that IS vastly different. However, the films are generally
vastly different (and not as good) as the book.
