Hello!

And welcome to AHWW! If you've been our there lurking and are considering
joining our little campfire, well, come on in, sit down, and have some of
Katmandu's three- alarm chili.

Some of you might have noticed references to a werecard and are probably
wondering just what a werecard might be. Well, a werecard is a way for us
to
get to know you better! Werecard were designed by Ron Werebat, and have
undergone a couple of changes since. But the basic idea remains the same.
Just fill in what ever information you feel comfortable giving. We only
ask
that you be honest in what you do tell us. Many packmembers here have
their
werecards posted on their homepages, and if they don't well, perhaps they
will be willing to e-mail a copy to you. So, if you want more information
about a name you see around the campfire, well, just ask.

Werecard are a perfect way to delurk, BUT...if you don't feel comfortable
filling one out, well, don't let that stop you. Pull up a rock, tree, or
whatever your preferance may be and join us by the fire. And again,
welcome
to AHWW.

Well, here goes; I've put this off and put it off, and it isn't going away,
so here we go. Comments welcome; flames diverted to alt.dev.null.

>Human Name: PJ Wolf
>Other E-Mail Addresses: None yet. Borrowing this one; will post my own
when I actually have one.
>Were Name: Greywolf the Wanderer
>Phenotype: Mostly classic grey timberwolf, but if you look closely, you
can tell there's some Samoyed in the mix, somewhere back there.
>Birthdate: June 22nd, 1958
>Birthplace: Edinburgh, Scotland
>Home Territory: McCloud, Siskiyou County, Northern California
>Dream Territory: Varies. Usually the desert, but I'm also partial to the
lake valleys of British Columbia, and the redwood groves of the Bay Area.
>Physical Description, Human: Short, heavyset. Red-brown hair, eyes that
are grey or blue, depending on the light and my mood. Dress is mostly blue
jeans and t-shirt; bandanna around my head Apache-style. Hair usually long
and braided, except when I get bored and chop it all off (about every three
or four years). Copper chains around wrists to help my rheumatiz -- and
they do help.
>Physical Description, Were: Usually classic wolf-shape. Undercoat is
heavier and paler than pure wolf; mostly white, shading to pale grey on my
back. Topcoat mostly steel grey, with black tips in places (forelegs,
cheekbones, down my spine and tail) Amber eyes -- almost yellow when I'm
really pissed off. Tenor howl, love to sing in concert with the others.
>Human Career: Have been a security guard (airport and plant watch),
nurse's aide (geriatric, surgical, and rehab/head injury care), janitor,
gardener, sometime student -- and the usual assortment of menial summer
jobs. I do homecare at the moment; it's a sweet gig.
>Hobbies/Interests: Gardening, working on my house, backpacking (when I get
time -- rare at the moment). Writing!! Star Trek, tho' I don't like what
they're doing to it since the Great Bird died. Raising Samoyeds and herding
cats. Drawing, and jewelry making, both beaded and metal/gemstones. And of
course, Netting!! <grin>
>Favorite Movie: Whoo, that's a hard one, there's so many of them. One is
definitely Cool Hand Luke. Also "Ran", by Kurosawa... Alien, and Alien3.
Most anything with Arnie in it, also Johnny Depp. Scent of a Woman,
Sneakers... I could go on for about 50 more...
>Favorite Were Movie: Wolf, also American Werewolf in London (bummer
ending, though), and Nastassja Kinski's remake of Cat People.
>Favorite Literature: Stephen King, Jo Clayton, CJ Cherryh (older stuff).
Lucius Sheperd, John D. MacDonald, Dick Francis. Barbara Hambly! Diane
Duane's Trek novels. Tony Hillerman. Heinlein's early works, especially
The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. Neil Gaiman's entire Sandman series, also
the Hellblazer comics. Daredevil:Born Again. The Watchmen. Lone Wolf
and Cub. And on, and on...
>Favorite Were Literature: Hmm! Moon of 3 Rings, and Jargoon Pard, both by
Andrea Norton. Operation Chaos, by Poul Anderson. Those are the ones I can
remember right now, anyhow.
>Favorite Art: Chesley Bonestell's space pictures. Georgia O'Keeffe (sp?).
Hokusai's Japanese prints (sp?). Maxfield Parrish. In comics, Bill
Sienkewicz (sp?), David Mazzuchelli, P. Craig Russell. Lots more, can't
rmember names right now.
>Favorite Were Art: Haven't seen much yet, but I DO like the AHWW t0shirt
design!!
>Favorite Saying/Quote: "Just think of it as evolution in action."
>Favorite Were Saying/Quote: "Sometimes the moon howls, and the wolves are
silent". That's someone's sig, I forget who, and I love it.
>Favorite Personal Quote: "You did what, on whose back porch, for HOW many
cookies?"
>Favorite Band(s): Yes, especially early. Dire Straights. The Grateful
Dead!!! Jethro Tull, especially Heavy Horses, Aqualung, Thick as a Brick,
and Songs From the Wood. Kantner/Starship's Blows Against the Empire.
Midnight Oil. Handel, JS Bach, and Beethoven. And on, and on...
>Favorite Were Song: Has to be Werewolves of London!!
>Favorite Season: Whichever one it is at the time I'm asked, but I like
summer a bit more, I think.
>Favorite Holiday: Samhain, followed by Winter Solstice.
>Perferred Prey: Deer -- them's good eatin'! Also Lawyers and Real Estate
Developers -- we have a $5 varmint bounty of their pelts around here!
>Preferred method of attack: Deer: Lie in wait, then pounce! (asthma, so
running's pretty useless) Lawyers, etc -- show them a mirror. If that
doesn't work, beat 'em to death with a big stick (hate cleaning black ichor
off my paws and teeth!)
>Favorite Non-were Mythological Beast: Hmm. Tie between dragons and
centaurs.
>Feelings Toward Vampires: Pretty much the same as toward humans, see
below.
>Feelings Toward Normal Humans: Some are really cool, some are total
dickheads. The vast majority are just sorta there.
>Personal Lyncanthropy: For as long as I can remember, I've known I was
different from the people around me, especially my family. I always felt
like an outcaste; in school I usually was. I learned to fight early and
well -- I had no choice! My nickname in the schoolyard was "Animal",
because I dodn't hesitate to bite if cornered. It threw the humans off
every time; they came unglued -- that was against their rules, although
apparently it was just fine for ten or fifteen of them to jump solitary me.
I refused to back down, and I refused to be bullied. So I fought. In grade
school my favourite book was "Yellow Eyes the Cougar". If I read that once
I read it a dozen times, at least. At times I thought I was a cougar, or a
Vulcan stuck in a human body. When I was in trouble I would recite to
myself the line from "I never Promised You a Rose Garden" -- "You are not of
Them." As the years went by, I came to feel more and more like a wolf
inside. The more I learned of wolves, the more their behaviour and
attitudes made sense to me, where the attitudes and behaviour of humans were
often incomprehensible, if not downright obnoxious.
I have always been a loner, but most of that is because it has been very
hard to find others I can relate to or get along with. In school I was the
one off in the corner, reading a book while the rest were interacting with
the teacher.
I found that the moon had a very strong pull on me; stronger, as time goes
by. I never saw Her face until I was 14; that was the first time I got a
really good pair of glasses. It blew me away; I sat up half the night just
looking at her, feeling her light fizzing in my blood like speed, or fine
wine... One night when I was about fourteen or so I was outside, camping,
and I heard the brothers-in-fur begin their nightly song to the Moon. Next
thing I knew, I was on all fours, nose pointed at the sky, joing in for all
I was worth. And it felt *wonderful*! It was soon after that that I Saw
Wolf, in a dream. I looked down at myself, and saw not a human, but a wolf
-- and felt like I had finally come home, after wandering lost among the
mumans all my life. That was 24 years ago, and Wolf has been inside me ever
since... and I suspect, before that, too, if only I'd known how to Look.
I fight like a wolf, and a lot of the time I think like a wolf. I am
human, yes -- but I am also a wolf. Both at once. I feel as if I mentally
shift quite often; if one day I could actually physical shift, and run with
the pack through the forest, I would be delighted!! In the meantime I make
my living, pay my bills, and enjoy the fact that I'm not limited to only
what humans know.
Since finding AHWW I have been immensely cheered, for even with all the
fights here (and what group has no fights at all?), I feel as if I have
finally found my pack. I am crazy, yes -- but not in THIS way. And all of
you are my proof, that I'm not the only one, that others out there do
understand, and agree.
Thanks, guys!!
(Revisions will no doubt occur to me, just after I save this. So be it! ;-)

Nose sniffs and face licks to all! I finally got my act together and
finished my werecard. A motivating force was my were-self finally
decided to let me in on our/my/her name. My server's being a pain in the
tail, so although I tried to send this along, I have a feeling it didn't
get through. So - using AloneWoof's periodic post, here goes.
Mri'fa-o,
FierceSong
aka Bren

Human Name: Bren Mason
Other E-Mail Addresses: bma...@su.edu <--starting Aug. 24th
& har...@access.digex.net
Were Name: FierceSong
Phenotype: Feline, a Caracal in Scotland
Birthdate: Oct. 16, 1974
Birthplace: a hospital in Washington, DC
Home Territory: Gaithersburg, MD during the summer for now [mom's selling
the house] and Winchester, VA during the school year, also for now,
'cause I'm planning on graduating this May!!
Dream Territory: Rocky hilled, deciduous forest, streams running
through, crisp cool air all year 'round... at dusk, the moon shining
full, of course.
Physical Description, Human: Female, 5'4" or thereabouts, thin: 105lbs or
so, grey eyes that change colours with my moods, blond hair when I
don't dye it funny colours, generally dressed all in black.
Physical Description, Were: A feline about the size of a Border Collie
(w/o tail) with short copper-tawny fur fading into white/cream on
the belly, throat and chin, lithe body, long tail and ears. The
ears are tufted with black fur on the tips.
Human Career: Student/Seasonal sales (read: summer job)/Classical (Opera)
singer, if someone will hire me...
Hobbies/Interests: Hiking, Katana and Rapier; poetry; Music - Piano and
song, and any instrument I can get my hands on; Language;
Pagan/Shamanistic spirituality; Gardining; random arts and crafts,
hell anything artsy, really; and er... chasing rabbits and ducks
around campus, just to round it all out!
Favorite Movie(s): _BladeRunner_ and _The Hunger_
Favorite Were Movie: _The Cat People_ - a 'b' movie, horror style, but
somehow I liked it. The were-cats (black panthers) had their own
society - some were good, some were bad, which I liked, but the
method of transformation was written so the weres were generally
evil - it made the panther hunger for human flesh.
I'll include _Manamal_ here, even though it was a television show.
I loved it! Does anyone else out there even remember it? It was a
rather short lived series.
Favorite Literature: _Schrodinger's Cat_: RA Wilson and most any Mercedes
Lackey book.
Favorite Were Literature: _Steppenwolf_ - okay so it's not quite were
literature, but if you've read it, you'll understand.
The Chronicles of the Chesuli - Honourable, Gods-gifted, what
more need I say?
Favorite Art: Rene Magritte and Michael Parkes
Favorite Were Art: By weres or about them? I haven't seen either, so I
haven't got a favourite! ;) Oh wait! I very much like the AHWW
t-shirt.
Favorite Saying/Quote(s):"Remember, not all tears are shed in sorrow" -
Gael Baudino
"'I fear I shall never see you again!'
'This is trus love. Do you think this happens
every day?'" - Princess Bride
Favorite Were Saying/Quote: it's quoting AloneWoof, so it's a were quote:
"Dogs answer when called. Cats take a message and may get back to
you later."
Favorite Personal Quote: "Weird is a blessing not a curse!"
Favorite Band(s): Too many to count...
Favourite Operas: [I had to include this one... :)see profession] _Norma_
(Bellini) for it's plot and _Cosi Fan Tutti_ (Mozart) for it's
music.
Favorite Were Song: _Sister Moon_: Sting, _Of Wolf and Man_: Metallica,
and _Hot Summer Nights_: Meat Loaf
Favorite Season: Autumn
Favorite Holiday: Bealtinne
Perferred Prey: Young and/or small deer, rabbits, ducks, squirrils,
gothic children...
Preferred method of attack: Hide, stalk and pounce!
Hunting Tips: If your prey sees you as you're mid-stalk, mesmerize them
by keeping eye contact and continue your stalk,
very...very...slowly.
Favorite Non-were Mythological Beast: Griffin(s)
Feelings Toward Vampires: I've met a few I do like, but I wouldn't want
to be one.
Feelings Toward Normal Humans: generally misanthropic, but they have the
*potential* for good
Personal Lyncanthropy: Well, I've rambled on all my other answers, so
I'll try to keep this part relatively short [yeah, right] and not start
at the very beginning. All through my life [so this isn't the very
beginning?] people have told me how much I act like a cat, and an
ex-boyfriend even commented on how (like a cat) I could take up more
space on a bed than should be physically possible for someone my size,
and thereafter called me Manx. when I asked if he meant minx or the
tailless cat he said "both!". I pretty much just figured I had a cat as
my totem, and that maybe I identified overmuch with them. But as I began
studying paganism, I kept a dream journal, and realized that when I
dreampt, I *was* a feline, but not of the house cat variety. So I tried
to see myself when I was dreaming and saw what I described for you above;
a Caracal, only my tail is overlong for a (live? real?)Caracal. I
haven't understood that part yet. Then one day I stumbled onto an IC
newsgroup, and those were all mostly were-somethings. I had also begun
to study shamanistic teachings, and to shift in waking hours. My Chosen
Family are spiritual shifters, and they helped me alon my spiritual
growth. We are a pack, and for some odd reason, the females are feline
and two of the males are wolves. The other two are dragon/bear and
Something That Flies(we're not sure yet). Anyway, when I started hunting
info on were-anythings , I kept stumbling onto many of AHWW packmember's
pages. It was a gradual realization that I am a were, and it feels
right. I even managed a partial physical shift, in the presence of
others, (members of my pack), but it was so strange, I was startled out
of it. Not frightening, just odd! I felt my eyes go slitted, the
colours of the room started changing, and I looked at my hand, and it was
clawed, furred, and in the process of changing into a paw. Wrow! I
wasn't the only one who saw it, both members of my family who were ther
commented on it! But at home for the summer, I finally have the time to
introduce myself to the AHWW pack.
I guess that's about it, if there are any questions or comments, or
whatever, e-mail me, Mri'fa-o,
FierceSong
aka Bren

I remember Manimal from the Sci-Fi channel about six months ago. Yes,
it was good. I should have taped some of 'em.

I tried, but I couldn't quite finish it. Or middle it, for that matter.
I took some ribbing for reading it. Try "Siddharta" by the same author
for another good one.

Welcome to the asylum, FierceSong. Many howls and much posting.

Oh yes! I agree totally! Except that I think that it really IS were literature!

I preferred Demian to Siddharttha....Siddharttha was nice... but I thikn
that's just it... it was too "nice".

Demian was almost a religious experience for me... Steppenwolf too, to a
lesser degree... I never even managed to finish "The Glass Bead Game"
though. I just didn't care for it.

I very much like Hermann Hesse's work on the whole... I recommend it
highly... especially to folks like us weres.. who are "different". : )

Anyway, Welcome to the fire Fiercesong!
