OT motor oil pricing
So we just had a thread about whether or not the 3k oil change is worthwhile. I had just changed my oil prior to that thread, at about 3500 miles, in preparation for my regular 600 mile drive. Not too long ago I stopped buying oil by the quart, and started buying it in big plastic jugs emblazoned:... more »

Kenmore washer problem
I think the transmission is toast but would like some input from someone more knowledgable than me. When my grandson tried to wash some sneakers in the washine machine, there was a very loud ratchet noise coming from it. Seems one of the sneakers wedged against the agitator and it couldn't move. Now when it should start to agitate, it makes a couple of weak swings and... more »

Gas Water Heater Leaking
I had to turn the gas off temporarily, then turned it back on. Naturally I forgot to re-light the water heater pilot and it was off for about 18hrs. When I finally went to do that, I saw a puddle under the water heater. It was dripping from what I believe is the drain valve. It's a white plastic... more »

OT- Shopping in hard economic times just got harder
I waited till later in the evening tonight to go purchase a dvd player as mine went to lunch today. So, I picked out a 29 dollar magnavox and when I got home it looked like it was repackaged. The cord was not wound up and the foam in the box was broken up. And the case of it even looked like it had been used.... more »

Any IP or ethernet-capable HVAC thermostats with their own internal web-server?
I've looked up the IP/Ethernet thermostats available from four different vendors, and their products don't seem to allow for direct web-based access to the thermostats by the end-user. The way they do it is that the thermostat communicates directly with a server operated by the manufacturer, and the end user accesses their own thermostat via web... more »

Help with water line
I plan on running 200 feet or water line to a detatched garage spigot and frost free hydrant. I bould the coiled black polyethelene NSF rated 3/4 tube. My intention was to place a piece of 1 1/4 inch conduit through my block wall and run the pipe through that so as to avoid any sharp edges in the block then lay the rest of the pipe... more »
