Metal forming and its processes

A metal piece or object is mechanically reshaped without adding or removing material through metal forming process. Even the mass of the object remains unchanged during metal forming. Metal forming process provides more consistent characteristics unlike the current processes like cutting and joining of metal objects. Process of metal forming shall be an economical production process on an industrial scale, when it happens with many parts, as heavy and expensive machinery shall be used for generating very high loads and stresses required for reshaping the metal with uniform characteristics. The forming processes adopt the materials science principle of plastic deformation. The various types of forming processes are categorized on the basis of the different effective stresses and loads involved in the course of operations.
