I've always used SEARS Weatherbeater,
but a painter friend sez "it's crap"
So, now, I'm looking into either
Sherwin Williams, or the LOWES in-house brand.
I'm open to all suggestions....

I just used SW Duration on my trim. It looks very good. I'm having the
inside painted by professionals because of the 19 ft. vaulted ceiling. One
of them looked at the porch today and asked what I used because it looked so
good. I have used the SW Superpaint and liked that also and it costs a lot
less than SW Duration.
Did he tell you *why* he thinks it's crap?
I used to be a housepainter (and still occasionally do interior work);
I've used Weatherbeater on 4 or 5 exterior jobs in the past (when the
customer bought the paint), and never had any problems with it. When
we painted my Mom's house four years ago, we used it. It went on well,
with good coverage, and has held up great. I'm in the Pacific
Northwest, and with all the rain and damp a paint job takes a beating,
but her house still looks freshly-painted.

I don't know about Sherwin Williams, as I've never used it. I've
heard good things about the Lowe's brand from reliable people, but
again, I've never used it myself so I can't elaborate. Behr is
good--I'm using it on the inside of my own house right now, and it
goes up really nice.
If you're in the Southwestern US, I highly recommend Dunn-Edwards--I
used to use their products when I worked as a housepainter in
California. It was great stuff, and I never had a bad experience with
any of it.
Glidden sucks, pure and simple--I've had customers who bought the
paint before deciding to hire someone else to put it on the walls for
them, and around here (western Washington State) they end up buying
&8%+^! Glidden at the Borg, and I hate, Hate, HATE it. Every can I've
encountered has been runny, drippy stuff that takes three coats to
cover. </rant>

You're about the only one on this NG who has a good word to say about
Behr! (No personal experience; just hearsay.)

Not the only one. I used Behr exterior semi-gloss on my house and
it's holding up fine. Went with 2 coats for protection, but one
covered completely.
Lowes store brand paint tends to get positive feedback here but I'd
avoid the other mass merchant paint such as Sears, Behr, Dutch Boy,
etc.

I'm another one. I have had nothing but success with Behr for years, inside
and out!
