Hey Small world !! I too live in so cal near knotts berry farm....I had the
same prob on my house, ground level in the flower bed area. I merely mixed up
some stucco patch i bought at home depot, applied it myself after scrapping all
the loose stuff off. Tried to texture it similiar to the existing good stucco.
Trial and error here.....Painted it the same time i painted my house with
masonary paint, no primer, no sealer... Forget sandblasting. Even a pro will
have difficulties matching new stucco to existing. If you wont settle for
anything less than perfection, re-stucco the entire wall, one coat of stucco.
Commonly called the color coat.
Stucco is applied in 3 layers, or coats. Commonly called, scratch, brown, and
color coat. Then repaint.

Wait a minute, stucco is the cement stuff, it is put over the siding on the
house, not over plaster. (Stucco is alternativly refered to as exterior
plaster.) Is the paint flaking off the stucco, or is the stucco not
adhering?

If the paint is generally good but a little chaulky, a good washing with a
stiff brush, followed by a clear water rinse and prime and paint with a good
quality paint.

If the paint is peeling, a high pressure washer will blast off all the bad
paint, and then you prime and paint. Sand blasting will kill your stucco.

Kelly Moore, Benjamin Moore, Sherwin Williams, etc. Generally speaking,
paint that is sold in paint stores is good paint, paint sold at hardware
chains and mass merchindisers is junk. The paint stores sell cheap paint
also, but don't get that, get the good stuff.
The key to a good paint job is preperation. Preperation is hard work, but
it is well worth the effort. good paint on top of poorly applied paint will
stick like hell to the paint that peels off from underneath.

If you are not part of the solution, you are not dissolved in the solvent.
you're merely stating your biased opinion Roger. why dont you specifically
explain why the paint sold by home depot is junk. How did you become the
worlds leading expert on junk paint anyway?

I do not claim to be an expert on junk paint. My experience has led me to
believe the opinions I have expressed, and I realy have no need to go into a
lengthy chemistry lecture to justify my opinion. If you want to buy your
paint at Home Depot, go right ahead. Myself, I would prefer to have my
paint jobs last longer.
If a person has a preference for something, doesen't that by definition make
him biased?
Well, if you are going to presume to distribute advice, then you do
indeed have such a need -- or at the least to share the experiece that
has lead you to hour opinions. If you expound opinions without
justification, then it is simply prejudice, not knowledge.

If you want to buy red paint, go right ahead. Myself, I would prefer
to have my paint jobs last longer. Nonsequetor.

Right, and I am biased toward green paint. That does not mean I have a
basis to claim it is better for anyone else. A bias is fine provided
it has justification. Promoting that bias is fine provided the
justification is presented. Without justification, it smacks of
snobbery or prejudice.
I have no way to judge whether you are correct or not, but having made
the statement, it is your responsibility to provide your reasons. Is
this merely anecdotal? Your buddy bought Glidden and it peeled in 5
years but your brother-in-law bought Sherwin Williams and it lasted
10? That might justify your bias, but not sufficient to convince me.

Have seen a number of opinions on the newsgroup that HD (Behr) paint is junk.
I've only tried it once - alkyd semi-gloss - and concur that it is junk. I've
used Ben Moore for years and years and never been disappointed. Goes on well,
covers and stays on. Takes a beating - kitchen with lots of grease and smoke,
washes well over and over. My parents home had it on exterior and it lasted 10
years with no mold or peeling (credit to the painter here, too). The house was
repainted "just because it's time". I recently repainted some trim on my
daughter's home - Sherwin Williams primer and a satin alkyd (can't teach old dogs
new tricks) found at the Ben Moore store. Store run by a guy about 70, with
three helpers all same age. They took about 1/2 hour mixing my color and
matching it against the paint chip, even drying it to make sure it matched.
Seemed to know everything there was to know about paint, as the phone was ringing
constantly. The primer was fantastic in going on evenly, COVERING and smoothing
out beautifully. Same with the paint.
