We seem to be visited daily by a male cat which is spraying around some
basement windows. Some of it somehow gets through and smells something
fierce in the basement!
What products are out there to repel the cat(s)?????

I have had neighbors cats get into my car and spray (who knows where exactly)
in the car...on a warm moist day...P.U!!!!!

Does anyone know of anything to get the odor out?

My wife was taking our male tabby to be neutered when he got out of the
cage in the car
and let his bladder go like nobody's business
(probably revenge on his part)...

We tried every product under the sun and unfortunately settled for
trading in the car...

PS we still have the little #$$%^^#.

The absolute best stuff we've ever tried is called "The Equalizer," made by
Evsco Pharmaceuticals. It comes in a spray can. You spray it on and the
smell goes away in about five minutes. I've used it in my car, on the
carpet, and on a bathroom rug.

The only thing it didn't work on was a ripstop nylon carrying bag. So we
immersed the bag in a mixture of water and Odormute, a powdered chemical
made by Ryter Corporation, which seems to have worked pretty well.

Clean the area with white vinegar. It works really great, and it also
acts as a repellant (with most cats). Some cats also don't like bitter
apple or bitter orange. Good Luck! Colleen

I really don't understand these cat urine problems. We bought a house
with a dirt-floored crawl space under part of the kitchen. The crawl
space opened into the basement. Eight cats belonging to the previous
owner had been using it as a litter box for many years and the whole
house smelled like a catbox. It was not a pleasant job, but we went in
and shoveled out all the loose stuff and then saturated the soil
underneath with a neutralizer we bought at a pet store. I don't
remember the name, but it was specifically meant for cleaning
catteries. There must be half a dozen available at any pet store. I
have a supersensitive sense of smell, and I can tell you that the
smell was gone in just a few weeks.

Our own cats sometimes pee in unwanted places when they are
frightened. It is annoying, but just cleaning the area with something
like Pine Sol will usually do it. If not, we use one of several
cleaners for pet urine we buy at the local pet store. Always works.

It's funny. The posts I see on this subject are always about cats and
never dogs. And 90% or so of the posters are men who obviously hate
cats or who get off by suggesting shooting them. And a good portion of
the posts are wildly exaggerated. Draw your own conclusions.

Don't forget, though, that regular cat urine and marking scents
(and urine released in fear, panic, etc) are different chemically
and have VERY different scents. Everyday cat pee does smell, but
you can almost always neutralize it with the cleanser of your
choice or with a pet urine neutralizer. However, if the cat lets
loose in the car on the way to the vet (in fear), or when marking
his (and even her) territory, it really stinks and isn't always
responsive to the enzymatic and other types of odor reducers.

Take it from someone who knows...

i have been a professional carpet cleaner for 12 yrs, if it is on the
floor, i'm assumming it is a cement basement floor, you need to clean the
area and then use a sealant on the floor it eliminate it. go to your
hardware store and tell them your problem, they should be able to recommend
a sealant for your situation. u never mentioned if you had carpet or etc,
that is important to know :)

if it is soooo bad that it is in the padding, u can kiss it good bye. a
good cleaning and enzyme deordorizers can get rid of a lot, but not if it
is in the padding. even if u think it is gone, once it is activated again
by another spill of any kind or even a humid day will bring the odor right
back.

And Watkins makes something called Odorban. Used for kennels, etc.
Ought to work. Even takes odor out of hardwood floors.

I bow to your obviously extensive experience. We "only" have four
cats. You may well be correct about spraying cats, but I confess that
I have never noticed the smell. How can people smell so selectively
outdoors? All I can smell around here is an occasional whiff of
petroleum from the refinery corridor here in New Jersey (about 20
miles away!) and wood smoke from some back-to-the-woods die-hard down
the street and, of course, that nice earthy smell from our compost
heap.

Sorry for chiming in a bit late to the discussion, but I really feel like I need to add my 2 cents. Cats don't just pee on floors and beds because they're in pain - could be a multitude of other reasons! Most common is that male cats feel the need to mark their territory.

As for myself, I finally found something that works for the cat pee smell in my home!

What a relief to finally have gotten rid of the horrible cat pee smell, and without any expensive sprays at that.

One of my 2 cats (both neutered males) had taken to painting all of my walls, furniture, and anything else he could reach. I was horrified when I got a UV light. He never did that in all of the 9 years I've had him and didn't when I got him a buddy (they love each other and did so right away) but when a strange black cat started showing up outside both of my cats went nuts and the older one (9) started his wall painting, as well as the curtains out in the kitty room. I couldn't keep up with it.

My cats are indoor cats so it's not like the stray is actually going to get in here but they both hate him (and he is weird...my neighbor's cats hate him too). I've tried cleaning with a pet urine enzyme and then spraying some "No More Spraying" but that hasn't worked.

He's a sneaky little bugger too; he waits until he thinks I'm not looking and then does it. He's learned that the minute I see him backing his butt up to something he gets yelled at. It wasn't until I found "Cat Spraying No More" that I was able to finally get rid of this tiresome behavior. Now my house doesn't smell like a litter box anymore

To be honest, I don't know too much about it so I did a quick Google search and here's a review I found: https://nomorecatpee.com/index.htm

I'm based in Germany, by the way, so you should be able to get it too. Good luck!
