I would prefer buying locallay, but Wow!, I could save a few thousand
dollars on a Sony plasma.

Any reason why I shouldn't?

Check if the seller is an authorized reseller, this goes for anything.
I bought a $15,000 La Marzocco espresso machine from an non-authorized
dealer and the manufacturer refused to honour the waranty.

What if you have a warranty issue?  Who pays shipping and how long?  I live
in Western Washington and have great Audio/Video stores in my backyard.  Buy
local, but dicker, i'll bet you can get at least 10% retail on the 'in
demand' products, more on other stuff.
