I have been picking up swarm that have settled in peoples yard lately.
When they are on a flexible branch i just give it a good shake to
dislodge the ball into a nuc box. It seems to be quite an elegant, and
effective way to do it. But when they are on a branch that is too
substantial to shake I struggle to get a clean drop. I just try to
scrape them off with a hive tool which result in a lot more bees in
the air. anyone have any tips? How do you do it?

Maybe use a larger tool for a larger scrape like a big piece of
cardboard or similar tool just be gentle so as not to harm also I
think the key is to get the new box as close to the swarming hive as
possible to minimize the "drop". Good luck and we'll see if any others
here have any advice
