Is there a rule of thumb to estimate the number of bees in a hive?

Like X number of bees per used frame or something.

hi,

normal european figures are 60.000 bees / hive, divided by about 15
combs = 4.000 bees / frame (Dadant), 3.000 bees / hive (Langstroth) -

in a swarm you have 10.000 bees / kg

imagine 2/3 of hive is brood makes 4.800 / 3.700 cells on a frame
(Dadant / Langstroth)

speed of bee = 20 km / h, distance to most far situated flower about 3
km, but already at a way of 1 km half of collected food has to be used
for flight energy
