-On Page 65 you say that Quartermaster Hichens "gazed out through the
wheelhouse windows." What is the source for this? Hichens himself
testified that he could not see anything because he was enclosed in the
wheelhouse, and neither could Sixth Officer Moody who was right next to
him at the time, and told Fourth Officer Boxhall that he did not see
the berg.
-On Page 97 you say that Fifth Officer Lowe remembered "for the rest of
his life" Ismay's facial expression. What is the source for that
statement?
-On Page 98 and 99 of your book, you make mention of the wireless
exchanges between the Titanic and the Frankfurt. You say that this was
"The first SOS in history." It is known that the first SOS dates back
to at least 1907, and that the Titanic was not the first ship to use
this distress call, contrary to popular belief. I was wondering what
source you used to obtain this data. I am assuming that it is the same
one Walter Lord used back in 1954, because you mispelled the Frankfurt
the same exact way: "Frankfort," and used exactly the same quotes in
the sections regarding the wireless messages.
I would greatly appreciate any help you could give regarding the
sources of these statements.
Best regards,
Tad Fitch

I didn't know the "Hammer" had published a book. Where can one obtain a
copy?
Regards,
Herr Meyers
Dan didn't publish the book--he wrote it and it's one of the most
popular Titanic Narratives out there!!! You can purchase it at Amazon,--
Barnes & Noble and almost every bookstore in America. "Unsinkable" is a must
read for all Titanic Buffs!!!
Bruce Caplan
Except, I find it hard to believe "The Hammer" is Butler. The postings aren't
quite vintage Dan B.
Hey Hammer, are you Butler ?
Bill
Well by God now that is the vintage Dan Butler I remember !!!
Welcome back, I missed you !
I'm so sorry to hear about the marriage and your health, you don't deserve
this run of bad luck. But, the important thing is you are back here with
us.
Now tell me, how is the book on Lusitania coming ? I check for it all the
time at the book stores, really looking forward to this one !
Bill
PS: The Hammer ? Now, the widow maker, the destroyer of men, this I would
understand.....but the hammer ? :-)
Guilty as charged, Bill! Yes, it is I, Daniel Allen Butler, in the flesh, in
all of his raving beauty (well, raving at least), in all his glorious
magnificence, at the top of his form, the peak of his game, the best, the
baddest, the ever amazing, often imitated, never duplicated-----(inset drumroll
here)--DANIEL ALLEN BUTLER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(AND THE CROWD GOES WILD!)
Not quite vintage Dan B., huh? Just because I haven't referred to anyone as
"the poster child for birth control"? (He posts on MBs on AOL anyway.) Just
because I haven't referred to someone as who resulted from her mother
copulating with a giant garden slug? (Ditto) Just because I haven't querried
which rock some particlar form of pond scum has oozed out from under? (Ditto.)
Guys and dolls, a lot of water has flowed under my particular bridge in the
last year: my father-in-law died, my marriage dissolved, I've been involved in
a disatrous romance, my health collapsed, I've started three new books (two of
which I'm actively working on rightnow) I've moved twice. This a different Dan
Butler that you new a year ago. Kinder, gentler? Let's not be ridiculous!
But certainly less apt to wield a bludgeon when a rapier will do. Let's face
it, there are no Joe Knapps or Marcus Grahams left on this NG--even Herr Meyers
(will somebody PLEASE explain that joke to him!) at his most irritating is
nothing like the pain in the arse those two (and all the alter egos they
created) were.
So the need for the "vintage Dan B." has disappeared, along with the desire to
dispense it. Just letting you all know....
Now I've got to get back to work.
Dan

The opinions expressed here are not necessarily those of the management, but
they ought to be!

It started when I changed Dan's moniker from "D.B.MacLaren" to
"D.B.McMalleus". There seemed a certain similarity found in Dan's
methods of dealing with AHOLT heretics, and those methods found in
Kramer & Sprenger's, "Malleus Maleficarum" (The Hammer of Witches).
Cheers... Bob
Welcome back Dan!
I finally got hold of your book. Have not had the time to read it
cover-to-cover yet, but the little snippets I sneaked a peek at
were excellent. I like your style of writing. Simple to read,
yet descriptive.
Colin.
You mightn't remember me but we had some rather lengthy discussions last
year on one of your articles 'Cameron's Titanic vs. Historical Fact'. You
mentioned then that you had some work published but I couldn't find it (me
living in N.Ireland). Could you send me info like an ISBN number? I'd be
interested in reading it. Thanks in advance,
Hazel Nelson
