I hadn't wanted to do this, but what with my health issues, and Bill's
commute and fear of being laid-off, and the cost of living in the
silicon valley, and because I need to make a fast buck, I will be
placing my one Titanic artifact on Ebay. The bidding will open at
$10,000 American. The "buy it now" price will, probably, be $250,000
American.

Okay. I have, right now, tucked safely away in an area where it's
totally protected....

A genuine piece of the real iceberg that sank Titanic!

Yes! Yes I do! It's even got a red paint stripe on it and everything!
If someone wants to telephone, I'll glady give them the provenance of
this amazing piece of history!

I guess I'm just fond of you all, and wanted you guys to get first
crack at this one-of-a-kind relic!

My best,

Eric Payne

Well, Eric, if YOU can bear to part with such a gem, then I will oblige by
thinning out my own collection with the following:

TOP 10 TITANIC ARTIFACTS FOR SALE THIS WEEK

10) Vial of the actual North Atlantic sea water in which RMS Titanic sank
in 1912

9) A 9-inch long scrap of muslin wrapping from the mummy carried on
board.

8) A wooden oar from Lifeboat #8

7) Three by three inch square from a woolen blanket worn as a shawl by a
passenger in lifeboat # 11

6) Rose Dawson's Monet painting recovered from the area of the sinking by
Captain Lord of the Californian on the morning of April 15th while searching
for survivors.

5) Single paint chip, 3/4-inch square (approximate) scraped from the hull
of RMS Titanic by a H&W yard worker as a souvenir on launching day.

4) The actual woman's shawl and hat worn by passenger W.T. Sloper in
order to board a lifeboat under Lightoller's watchful eye.
(STOP---before the flames begin---Yeah, I know he didn't---but work
with me here, OK?)

3) Two actual pages from the long-sought after Titanic ship's logbook,
documenting their near-collision with the Pacific Princess "Love Boat".

2) The previously missing pair of Crow's Nest binoculars, borrowed by my
Great Grandfather to view the receding Irish Coastline after departing
Queenstown. He never returned them to Fleet, who never acknowledged that he
had loaned them, fearing discipline.

...and the # 1 Titanic artifact for sale...

1) An authentic original photo of the Great Grandfather of Kevin (Time
Passages, Inc.) standing on Titanic's bow, arms outstretched, as
photographed by Father Browne. Photo is from the Priest's private
collection passed down to his heirs.

'fess up, Geri!

Your father bought it on eBay and has fourteen single-spaced pages of
provenance from "Honest Johnny's House of Gen-U-Ine Titanic Trinkets" to
prove its authenticity, right? Would you fax them to me, please?

In all seriousness, given what the Halifax representative told me,
wouldn't the provenance of items such as the photos have to contain
language something along the lines of, "salvaged from gargage"? Not
that there's anything wrong with that, but it seems that is part of
their history.

LOL - actually he really does have one of those stupid replicas that he got at
the Titanic exhibit in KC. I think he thought one of us would actually wear
it, and when we tried to dissuade him from buying it, he said that he would put
it in his safe and sell it twenty years from now. (He is a mad collector of

Just remember, Lissa! If you see it billed on Ebay as a "1912

Let's see... in just two lines you've managed to touch upon the two
myths that seem to provoke the most responses in this newsgroups...
The non-existent Mummy, and the "Jack and Rose are real!" myths.

And you claim to be "just visiting."

I had thought that claim a little odd when you first made it; I don't
see how you could find this group by looking at a few auctions on
EBay, but I let it go.

I still have this feeling, based on your own postings, that you are
not who you claim to be, "Jeff George" - but for reasons of your own
you may be posting under an assumed identity.

Let's see... wasn't there a "Jeff" a few weeks back who purchased some
"Titanic-related" photos on ebay, at a considerable sum of money? I
wonder if that Jeff has begun to question the provenance of those
photos?

How could you let that happen? Huh? I mean, my God, man, all you

Hi, Helen:

Thanks! I vaguely remembered from "The Making of..." that it was
Cameron's hand being *filmed* during the drawing, but I couldn't
recall whether they said the sketches were truly his own work.

And agreed -- they're not bad at all. The guy does have quite an

Well, though I by no means claim to have a substantial knowledge
Titanic, I can't imagine anyone truly believing that Rose and Jack were
real. I just think Kate Winslett is very easy on the eyes. As far as the
mummy, I didn't realize it was a long-running joke.

Actually, I didn't find this group through ebay. I have actually
subscribed to it in the past, when there was little to no traffic. I
just recently came back and was lurking until I saw the attacks on the
guy selling the photos. I can understand people wanting to intervene if
these were stolen artifacts, but I think perhaps some kind of retraction
is in order now that it appears that these are not stolen.

Well, I can assure you that I am indeed who I claim to be. I can supply
a valid driver's license and/or passport if you wish. I have never felt
the need to use an assumed name, except when motel rooms are involved.
