The criticism from Carter, which a biographer says is unprecedented for the
39th president, also took aim at Bush's environmental policies and the
administration's "quite disturbing" faith-based initiative funding.
"I think as far as the adverse impact on the nation around the world, this
administration has been the worst in history," Carter told the Arkansas
Democrat -Gazette in a story that appeared in the newspaper's Saturday
editions. "The overt reversal of America's basic values as expressed by
previous administrations, including those of George H.W. Bush and Ronald
Reagan and Richard Nixon and others, has been the most disturbing to me."
Carter spokeswoman Deanna Congileo confirmed his comments to The Associated
Press on Saturday and declined to elaborate. He spoke while promoting his
new audiobook series, "Sunday Mornings in Plains," a collection of weekly
Bible lessons from his hometown of Plains, Ga.
"Apparently, Sunday mornings in Plains for former President Carter includes
hurling reckless accusations at your fellow man," said Amber Wilkerson,
Republican National Committee spokeswoman. She said it was hard to take
Carter seriously because he also "challenged Ronald Reagan's strategy for
the Cold War."
Carter came down hard on the Iraq war.
"We now have endorsed the concept of pre-emptive war where we go to war with
another nation militarily, even though our own security is not directly
threatened, if we want to change the regime there or if we fear that some
time in the future our security might be endangered," he said. "But that's
been a radical departure from all previous administration policies."
Carter, who won a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, criticized Bush for having
"zero peace talks" in Israel. Carter also said the administration "abandoned
or directly refuted" every negotiated nuclear arms agreement, as well as
environmental efforts by other presidents.
Carter also offered a harsh assessment for the White House's Office of
Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, which helped religious charities
receive $2.15 billion in federal grants in fiscal year 2005 alone.
"The policy from the White House has been to allocate funds to religious
institutions, even those that channel those funds exclusively to their own
particular group of believers in a particular religion," Carter said. "As a
traditional Baptist, I've always believed in separation of church and state
and honored that premise when I was president, and so have all other
presidents, I might say, except this one."
Douglas Brinkley, a Tulane University presidential historian and Carter
biographer, described Carter's comments as unprecedented.
"This is the most forceful denunciation President Carter has ever made about
an American president," Brinkley said. "When you call somebody the worst
president, that's volatile. Those are fighting words."
Carter also lashed out Saturday at British prime minister Tony Blair . Asked
how he would judge Blair's support of Bush, the former president said:
"Abominable. Loyal. Blind. Apparently subservient."
"And I think the almost undeviating support by Great Britain for the
ill-advised policies of President Bush in Iraq have been a major tragedy for
the world," Carter told British Broadcasting Corp. radio.
Whose?
There he goes again bad-mouthing his country to the foreign media.
AWOL Bush is NOT the United States of America, and neither are Conservatives.

There are only two kinds of Republicans: Millionaires and fools.
Soplar, your advanced age is now giving way to senility.
Carter did NOT "bad-mouth his country to the foreign media," unless Carter
has become an Englishman, in which case, the deserved contempt shown to
Blair by Carter to the BBC---to the delight of the BBC and most any
British citizen---might possibly mean Carter bad-mouthed his country (the
UK) to media foreign to you, assuming you accept the absurd premise that
Blair and the UK are one and the same.
Just like the absurd premise that Bush and the USA, the country, are the
same!
Of course, we all really know that denouncing and insulting Bush both here
and abroad is not only NOT "bad-mouthing the country," it is a patriotic
duty!!
At any rate, those comments about the criminal Bush were made to a U.S.
newspaper, not to the "foreign media." Read the story again...this time
CAREFULLY!
Stick to building houses for the homeless at least you're good for that

100% accurate, so just keep shooting the messenger. It's pretty obvious you
have nothing else to work with.
Nothing compared to the celebrations that will take place on Jan 20th,
2009
I hope to remember another celebration when this guy finally
> shuts his pathetic mouth and slinks away in well deserved shame for how
> he conducted himself as President (thanks for Iran by the way)
And if he had deserted the Shah, the GOP would have painted him as a
lily-livered
coward who deserted an ally in need. (Yes, Iran was an ally at the
time)
and as
> ex-President (thanks for North Korea, Cuba, South America, Iran, Hamas,

Yep, that's ALL his fault. I'm guessing you're parrotting that stupid
book from Steven Hayward aren't you?
This idiot couldn't manage to find three helicopters that could

Jesus. Yes, he personally flew the copters and led the troops into the
tornado-like sandstorm that came up over the Great Salt Desert. Thank
goodness we don't have a fuckup like him running teh military today...
This idiot basically commanded the Shah to commit
> suicide and gave us Islamic extremism as a political force. This
> idiot...ahh what's the point
Huh?!?!? Nothing you just said makes any sense.
The Shah, was an ally of the US and Britian. True, he was one of our
allies who was also a murdering fuck, the kind of ally we seem to
endear ourselves to, regardless of administration. Yet, for all his
repression of political enemies, he was a force for progressivm in the
Middle East. He supported education and women's suffrage and was the
first Middle East leader to recognize Israel, a highly radical stance
at the time. Oh, yeah, he was sitting on gobs of oil too. We lika the
oil.
Where he (and Carter) went wrong is failure to measure the strength of
the emerging
radicals who would push for his overthrow. He left Iran, and Carter
felt obliged to give him refuge for cancer treatments.
Because of this, (and because the US was seen as complicit in the
years of the Shah's repression) the radicals, emboldendend by Khomeni
struck back.
At the time no one could have forseen that a ragtag little militia
would dare take over
a US embassy. (Of course, we hear that phrase a lot nowadays don't
we..?)
This was pretty much the US's first encounter with radical muslim
fundamentalists. Not the last one of course.
Now badmouth Carter all you want, but who was it who found it
advantageous to make an ally out of Iran's worst enemy, a guy who was
also progressive, yet simultaneously, a murdering fuck? Click on the
link to see just who...

So if Carter is bad, then Reagan, Bush 41, and Bush 43 are worse:
Reagan/Bush 41 would make the same mistake of siding with a butcher
who had lots of oil, and Bush
43 would make the same mistake of underestimating islamic
fundamentalists.
BTW, for a guy who GOPers call the worst president ever, Carter sure
gets your guys' panties in a bunch don't he??

Not his country; just his country's idiot (p)resident
Thanks for Iran? You are blaming Carter for Iran?
You are a FUCKING IDIOT
Let me repeat: You are a FUCKING IDIOT
You have no idea of history do you?
Iran was caused by a Republican administration overthrowing a
legitimately elected government in Iran and replacing that government
with the Shah who was as brutal as Saddam Hussein
Read your history and perhaps you will be less an idiot
and as

The Army planned that operation and the CIA and I always suspected
that it was purposely done to ensure that Carter was not reelected; I
wouldn't put it past them

How did Carter command the Shah to committ suicide; explain yourself
Islamic extremism was always a political force thanks to the United
States meddling in the affairs of the Middle East for the benefit of
guess who (yes, the oil companies) and against the legitimate
aspiriations of the people there
Boy, are you fucking stupid
FUCKING FUCKING FUCKING STUPID

Carter broke off all trade with the Shah as he wasn't "peaceful" enough.
This led Iran to become an oil rich nation of starving people, thus paving
the way for (popular support for) the Ayatollah to take over. I wonder if he
was peaceful enough...
Ordered to commit suicide? Not exactly, but definitely career suicide!
