As amazing as it may seem, the dubbed version is just about word for
word from the subtitled episodes in Gundam W (so far). The only

5) The original footage is kept intact (in the later showing).
6) That nice commercial break intro is left in as well.
7) The upcoming episode preview is also kept (!!)
8) *Gasp* Japanese Kanji on american TV screens!
Some differences:
1) The actor's voices are different (duh), but the VA's picked for
this dubbed version seem to belong to 30 something actors (a little
inconsistent with the character's ages). - I've noticed one or two old
DBZ voice actors in the credits roll.
2) Toonami has done away with the original opening (Sunrise may have
had one made, but Toonami sometimes doesn't use these openings)
A sad fate for the opening song "Just Communication", - which is now
reincarnated in a newer 'american rock-n-roll' orchestration at the
closing credits.
- (although I did hear a good snippet of it in one of the episodes
recently.)
3) Since the original opening tune is now the closing song, this
pushes off the original closing song "It's Just Love", along with the
entire Releena animation sequence that goes with it. (*sob*)
. . .given those few differences, I'd give it an 8 out of 10 for
faithfulness to the original series. (Outstanding)
The next hurdle will be the "toy-etic" marketing hype that the
series will have to endure.

The only major point I've seen that seems a big difference was in the first
episode when Trieze was talking about his evil plans. I don't recall for
certain that being in the subbed version I'd had, but it seems a little...
simple for what I recall. One of the things I'd really liked about G-Wing all
along was the amiguity of both the 'heros' and the 'villians.' And the fact of
Trieze's long range plans had always been something that seemed best discovered
slowly.
The other thing that surprised me was the mention of the 'Romfeller' federation
as _backing_ Trieze this early in the show. Granted, I've only heard this in
the opening narration, but still, it seems to be another major departure. Of
course, the OVERALL effect of these changes to the story and plot and
characters is going to be VERY minor. Just a matter of storytelling style to
my mind.

This doesn't surprize me. As much as I LOVE 'Just Communicaton' the lyrics
I've seen for it are suggestive to say the least, and there is almost no way to
translate them that would leave both previous fans of the show happy, AND not
inflame the various children's TV lobbies.
Speaking of which, for a show that has at LEAST one on screen death an episode
(and often messy ones at that!) can someone explain why the show is rated as
TV-Y7? The Macchiavellian machinations of Trieze, ALONE, would make it much
more mature a rating if you ask me. Let alone everything else that shows up.

Hai, I haven't seen subs of *any* Gundam (the dubs are all I've seen of
it) and I'm quite impressed with what I've seen ^_^ It's

I don't know...a lot of the dialog seems to have been changed, so it
would make sense to the audience. Keeping in mind, this is the *first*
Gundam *anything* to be exposed on such a large scale to America. I
myself was lost for about three episodes ^_^;;
In the first episode, there was even a "Gundam introduction" that was
needed, but didn't fit ^_^;

myself for a few episodes (I was sent a tape of the first dozen
subtitled episodes Sunrise released a little over a year ago and fell
in love with the complex plot and characterizations going on).
It's a /bit/ different from what American 'tooners' are used to with

later arcs- for Utena... and also most places -fansubbers at least- stop
distributing once a series gets dubbed and/or subbed... fortunately that's
usually done by season hence why so far S, SS and Stars are still out there...

Talking about anime, an arc would be a season, one set of the same
storyline. For instance, for SailorMoon, you would have the DK arc, the Ann-
Ail arc, the DM arc, the Deathbusters arc, the Neherenia arc and the Galaxia
arc. OAV stands for "Original Animated Video" (OVA is "Original Video
Animation" so it is just the same) and are animations made only for a selling
on VHS/LD/DVD (opposed to TV series, which are actually broadcast on Japanese
TV, and Movies, which are actually shown on theaters).

An Arc refers to a story arc... Like "The Doomtree Arc"... it's a contained
story subset...
And it's both OAV and OVA "Original Animated Video" and "Original Video
Animation"
Personally I usually write/type OAV but SAY "Original Video Animation"
Usually an OAV is a one shot... a small concept piece or series to get a thought
out of the way or to show executives when you wanna make the thing...
