Dear Bobbie,

We're moving closer to an exit strategy for the war on drugs! Now let's
take the next step.

You already put incredible support behind the first of three big ideas
to improve drug policy: getting the federal government out of the way so
states can try new policies. Thank you.
Now it's time for our second recommendation:

Stop using the criminal justice system to deal with drug issues:

Flexing enforcement muscle doesn't make our society safer or healthier,
and drug czar Gil Kerlikowske knows it. He told the Wall Street Journal,
"We're not at war with people in this country."

As the drug czar works on his blueprint for U.S. drug policy, it's up to
you and me to make sure he abandons not just the rhetoric, but the
reality of the drug war.

It's time to stop arresting marijuana users. It's time to stop raiding
the homes of families and shooting them and their pets. It's time to
stop locking up people who need access to treatment instead of jail cells.

Please join me in telling the drug czar to end the war on people:

Sincerely,

Ethan Nadelmann
Executive Director
