I saw an ad on soothing stones. Does anyone know why they are so expensive and
what are they usually used for?

If it's for hot stone massage, you heat them up and give the massage
with them. They also don't have to be expensive. Many people gather
their own or go to a landscape supply and get them for a few bucks. I
haven't heard of `soothing' stones, however, so don't know if they're
the same.

lol Pet Rocks.. i DO remember and like that name for 'em this time 'round
too. Shall we name them and paint little faces on them and talk to them
whilst applying them to the client? Or would they feel like they had
unwanted guests on their body? lol. Hmmm, but 8 oz of rock doesn't seem
like a lotta stone for $30.. that's nearly $4/oz.. catching up with gold

Right. The site at http://www.stonemassage.com/products.asp
doesn't even give a price on their 50 basalt lava stones. Guess
it's supposed to be like a menu without prices. Too rich
for my blood.

If it were practical, I'd like to see lead "stones" with an
epoxy coating to make them smooth. High heat content
there, with a density considerably higher than regular stones.
The epoxy coating would also isolate the elemental lead from
the practitioner.
The basalt has a density of 3.3 grams/cubic centimeter(cc),
lead is about 3 times as dense, at about 11 grams/cc.
In between comes steel (iron at 7.87, and brass, etc).
Point being that if you can get some flattish and smoothly
rounded products of steel or brass, put them in the tumbler
for a while to round them further, they would carry the heat
much longer.
Anybody want to market them? Better jump in quick. Make
them more affordable, make it become more popular, and
feed the market you've enhanced..
